Universal Bakehouse is one of those bakeries that simply blew up during the pandemic. Even if you’re not a fan of all things bread, it’s likely that you’ve heard of this bakery before. Located within a shop lot in Damansara Kim, it stands out thanks to its crisp white exterior.
Many regulars don’t know that this beloved bakery actually carries humble origins as a former laundry shop. Now celebrating crusty sourdough loaves and crumbly buttery scones, Universal Bakehouse continues to push boundaries and exceed expectations.

The bakery first opened its doors four years ago and has since gained a loyal following of regulars. With a solid 4.5 star rating and nearly 600 reviews to-date, it’s clear they know how to bake a loaf.
This will be a pleasant surprise for you, did you know that you can now enjoy Universal Bakehouse’s delectable pastries from the convenience of a roti van all across Klang Valley?
Bakery-on-wheels
Just like some neighbourhoods have a trusted roti man delivering fresh bread to their doorsteps, Universal Bakehouse now brings its artisanal pastries to you via a food truck. Imagine savouring their buttery scones without needing to visit their bakery!

Don’t get the wrong impression now. While it is a bakery-on-wheels, it does not go from neighbourhood to neighbourhood and from house to house. You can however catch this mobile bakery at various pop-up locations, which they update monthly on their Instagram.
Yes, it’s not exactly like a roti man but hey now, picture this: if you’re a Subang resident, you get to skip a 30-minute drive to Damansara Kim, yet still enjoy their scrumptious baked goods from the comfort of your neighbourhood.
So, follow them to stay informed about where you can find them next. They just might end up in your area.
These pop-ups usually kick off as early as 8am and run until they sell out, which is pretty quick! I suppose customers really love the unique concept of a bakery-on-wheels. If you catch a whiff of freshly baked goods drifting from a nearby van, you’d be tempted to stop and grab a croissant or two.
You’d be surprised by how much variety they actually manage to fit in one van. The pastries available at these pop-ups are alternated. You can find the selection available on their Instagram beforehand, to avoid disappointment if your favourite pastry isn’t available that day.

Their selection of breads are baked with 200-year-old natural leaven that adds a unique depth. They specialise in sourdough loaves and offer a range of varieties from cranberry walnut to honey oat, ensuring that there’s something to appease every palate. Reviews highlight that their sourdough selection is indeed worth the price, fluffy and high-quality with exceptional taste.
The bakery’s viennoiserie selection offers the classics like almond croissants and pain au chocolat, flaky and delicious with skilled laminations. If you don’t have a sweet tooth, there are savoury pastry options as well like their crowd-favourite curry potato pasty, or the spicy chicken sausage roll.

Of course, no bakery is complete without a select offering of delicious cakes. Their carrot walnut cake is especially popular but if that is not your cup of tea, they also have sea salt brownies, banana cake, earl grey chiffons, and more.
The shop is small but charmingly quaint. The only downside is that it often gets quite crowded. It would be best to time your visit at an off-peak hour.
The selection at Universal Bakehouse is pretty extensive. No matter what you decide to sample, you will not be disappointed as this is a bakery that prioritises quality, taste, and presentation.

Whether you choose to visit their physical bakery or catch them at one of their pop-up locations, you’re guaranteed to find breads, pastries, and buns that are vibrant and fresh, delivering both quality and comfort.
The bakery-on-wheels is their latest endeavour that is poised for expansion as it continues to gain popularity. Customers seem to delight in this unique blend of old-school charm and contemporary baked goods. There’s nothing quite like a sense of nostalgia.
With each visit, you can rely on Universal Bakehouse to provide their hallmark: comforting flavours laden with the simple joys of freshly baked goods.
