Who says cafe food is overrated? We’ll bring you to an underrated spot that seriously deserves more shine! Wondering where? Tedboy, of course! The purveyor of underrated cafe food in KL, Selangor and PJ!
In 2012, a husband-and-wife duo started their very own humble bakery, naming it after their recent firstborn, Ted. Though famous for their pastries, somewhere along the way, they started serving wholesome, affordable meals to the public! And that’s exactly what we’re here to try today!
The Food
Of course, we’re getting straight to business. The FOOD. What’s so special about it? Well, the most important feature is that Tedboy has a Halal-certified central kitchen and is HACCP-certified! Rest assured that anyone and everyone can enjoy a bite!
We tried a whole smorgasbord of food, so let us get into the meat of the review!
Roast Chicken
First, we tried the Roast Chicken, a tender whole chicken leg served with roasted root vegetables and salad, and a side of delectable mushroom sauce! The chicken, marinated for a minimum of 4 hours in paprika, garlic powder, thyme, oregano, basil, and other aromatics, is then sent into a sous vide for 5 hours!
Flash-grilled in a combi oven, once it’s pulled out the smell of herbs and spices fills the air. The result? Fork-tender meat that just pulls apart!
Aglio Oglio
And do not miss out on the Aglio Oglio, with premium olive oil from Italy and imported Italian pasta! For that perfect al-dente bite, they use dried pasta for the best results! With tons of garlic and wild mushrooms, the pasta is definitely a worth-it option at the cafe!
Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang
We also tried the very special Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang, where the rendang has a very secret recipe by the head chef of Tedboy! An equally secretive sambal is served alongside it, and we can totally see why! It’s perfectly balanced between spicy and sweet, with the slightest hint of savoury, and it pairs perfectly with the lemak rice!
Hawaiian Pizza
Remember the Roast Chicken? Well, the chicken on this pizza follows the same marination process! So you can be sure that the flavour is all locked in! You know Tedboy is known for its bakery, right? So trust that the pizza dough is delish and perfectly crispy! With sweetened pineapples and Italian cheese, this is a dish that simply can’t be beaten!
Mushroom Soup
As a mushroom maniac, this soup blew me away. We ordered this as a side, not giving it much though, but my oh my, did it pack an earthy punch! Wild button and assorted mushrooms are blended into the mix, alongside premium cooking cream to lighten it all up! This is no ‘cream of mushroom’ soup, it’s the real deal!
The Pastries
Of course, you can’t come to Tedboy and NOT try the pastries, we tried the Croissant, Egg Tart, and Cinnamon Roll! All flakey and honestly super generous with the size, these pastries are certified, MFT approved!
The Drinks
We also ordered two drinks to share, an Iced Latte and one of the milkshakes. Overall, the coffee had nutty notes to it, and the milkshake was berry-licious! Definitely good palette cleansers and refreshers to all the food we ordered!
The Environment
Tedboy’s environment, throughout most of their outlets, features simple wooden designs with pops of neon here and there. Natural light streams in from the glass, creating a cosy ambience that’s suitable for single diners or big groups looking for some quiet chit-chat! The shelves also feature products from local vendors, #sapotlokal! They offer outdoor seating too!
