Ahhh, nasi lemak. Our national treasure is a beloved dish that transcends background, race, and religion. It’s such a staple entity in Malaysia, so much so that if you dislike it, many would accuse you of not being a true Malaysian! While popular nasi lemak joints like Nasi Lemak Wanjo and Village Park dominate the scene, today we’re covering this hidden gem that’s quite popular with PJ locals, causing raised eyebrows for its controversial nickname: the Nasi Lemak Anjing from Restoran Al Ehsan!

Nasi Lemak….What?

It’s a name that without a doubt tweaks curiosity among Malaysians. Nasi lemak + Anjing?

Say what now? Some folks say it’s inspired by the packs of stray dogs hanging around the shops nearby. While the origin of the nickname remains a mystery, it’s definitely grabbed the attention of Nasi Lemak fans all over Malaysia!

Enough about the name; is the Nasi Lemak any good?

What a shame it would be if the name was interesting and iconic but the taste was rather meh? Well, luckily, this nasi lemak is popular among locals for a valid reason: The rice is super fragrant, with a whiff of strong lemongrass and pandan aromas. This is legit nasi, with the lemak, okay? The sambal, however, leans more towards the sweeter side, which may appeal to those who favour sweeter versions of sambal like the Nasi Lemak Wanjo. No Nasi Lemak Anjing experience is complete without trying their ayam goreng. They say it’s legendary for its ultra-crispy skin—the kind that goes “kriuk, kriuk” with every delicious bite!

Is the restaurant accessible, though?

Located within a 650-metre reach of the Taman Paramount stop, this mamak stall is definitely convenient for locals and tourists to check out what the buzz is all about. The strategic, humble location makes this the ideal stop for a casual lepak makan-makan session late at night, where it’s usually packed with foldable tables laid out across the shoplot.

Okay, cool, but how about the price?

Despite its growing fame, Nasi Lemak Anjing remains affordable, making it a favourite spot among budget-conscious locals. Priced at RM8.30 for a plate of nasi lemak with fried chicken, we definitely think it’s value for money and worth trying out if you’re craving a plate of decent and authentic nasi lemak without the flashiness. What’s more, the mamak stall’s late-night opening hours until 3 AM ensure patrons can satisfy their cravings till the wee early mornings. Overall, Nasi Lemak Anjing certainly earns its attention for not only its delicious taste worthy of comparison to the other famous spots, but also due to its fair price point and accessibility!
