Well, lucky you, there’s the perfect bar to head over that will not only please your senses but also appreciate the rich history that dates back to the 1920’s—one of the oldest bars in Msia called Sin Hap Hin, tucked away in the quaint streets of Kampung Jawa!

What’s Special About this Bar?

Run by the sweet and friendly Auntie Doris, Sin Hap Hin has been one of the oldest shops in Melaka, operating for over 100 years. With a legacy spanning four generations, the bar’s roots trace back to Auntie Doris’s father-in-law’s grandfather, who founded the establishment in the early 20th century…making it undoubtedly one of the oldest bars in Msia! Fun fact: back in the days, Japanese soldiers were always filling up this bar during World War II. Since then, Sin Hap Hin has been a hot spot for locals and travellers to pay a visit!

Taking You to a Blast from the Past

Stepping into Sin Hap Hin is like stepping into the past, literally. The bar oozes vintage charm, from the classic wooden counters and faded walls to the vintage glasses and old calendar hung upon the cabinet. It gives you a glimpse into what it was like back in the day. Unlike modern bars that try to capture a retro feel, Sin Hap Hin is the real deal. It just feels different. It’s got that genuine old-school vibe that no modern replica can match!

But, Real Talk: How’s the Drinks?

Now the moment of truth: the booze. As dated as the establishment, you won’t find the typical drinks sold in the wine selection at grocery stores. We’re talking about selections like Kokus Lychee Vodka, Melaka Rice Wine, Nu Er Hong, 53% Rice Wine, Coffee Rice Wine, Coconut Rice Wine, Rose Rice Wine, Kaoliang…you name it. It’s the wine and booze your grandparents never told you about, but now that you know, you feel like you’ve bonded with their spirits with every sip from the antique glass.

If you’re confused about what to choose, the owner will recommend you drink combos that will surely take you on a whirlwind of taste bud emotions. The Nu Er Hong with Sour Plum and 53% Rice Wine is perfect for those who are seeking stronger alcohol during the evening.

Lychee Rice Wine is also a crowd’s favourite, which Aunty Doris will recommend mixing with Shams Lemon for those added citrous notes.

How about the price?

The price varies depending on the drink selection and added combos. Expect it to be around RM9–RM30+ for local rice wine selections and RM60–RM100+ for rarer and imported selections. You might hesitate about the amount served, but we’re sure you’re here for the experience, not to get super tipsy.

So if you’re down to explore and try out something different than your usual spot, then visiting one of the oldest bars in Msia is a compulsory spot to visit! Who knows, the auntie might reveal more interesting tales in between drinks for a more interesting afternoon “tea”!
