Rise and shine! Can you smell that? The aroma of freshly baked pastries, and gorgeously brewed coffee. If you’re a cafe fiend like I am, you’ll appreciate this list of the 7 NEW cafes to try in February 2024!
1. Butter & Spice
An extension of their sister cafe, Kona Bakehouse next door, Butter & Spice opened their doors to SS2, serving fresh, unique pastries with a Japanese flair. The interior invokes an Italian vibe, with tiles that look almost burnished and bare cement elements. There’s even an Italian stone oven pumping out sourdough pizzas all day long!

Menu
Popular pastries that you ought to get while here are the Parmesan Paprika Shio Pan, a buttery, chewy delight that’s a perfect, savoury mouthful. Another unique pastry that should be on your plate might be the Truffle Cream Cheese Charcoal Croissant; seriously flakey and buttery, with hints of truffle and creaminess. They, of course, serve coffee too, but no drip or filter coffee.
Price
Pastries will cost upwards of RM6.5, and can depend on what exactly you’re chowing down on. The Truffle Cream Cheese Charcoal Croissant, for example, will run you for RM12! They serve hot meals here too, for somewhat standard cafe prices upwards of RM29!

2. Chloe.co
Opening their second branch, their first being a viral hit in Ipoh, virality has followed suit in their SS2 outlet! Often by 11AM you’ll see swarms of locals vying for a bite of their pastries and desserts, and by the end of the day, they’re completely sold out! Impressive, considering they serve over 80 types of pastries and desserts here!

Menu
Most known for their strudels, they serve two types here. The first being a gorgeous peach strudel, and the second being a delish strawberry strudel! With Cameron Highland strawberries and a homemade jam within, the pastry filling adds a perfect touch with the addition of cream cheese! Alternatively, give their glossy fruit tarts a try! Perfectly tart (haha) and sweet! A signature pasta that you have to try would be the Gochujang Rose Pasta, it’s one of my favourite pastas to date!
Price
Pastries vary in price here, but you can get one of the Chef’s Picks for as low as RM5! And if you’re looking at some of the pastries we mentioned above, the peach and strawberry strudel are both RM18 a piece!

3. Miss Coco Cafe
The harmonious blend of coffee and chocolate is something most of us are rather familiar with, and yet Miss Coco Cafe continues to outdo that expectation! Located in Lorong Ceylon, this spot specialises in Colombian coffee and Venezuelan and Malaysian chocolate!

Menu
With a myriad of chocolates to choose from, each with its own distinct tasting notes, it can certainly be overwhelming. But we’re here to fix that. Definitely give their bon bons a try, and their chocolate bars too! Our recommendation? The Kuala Lipis, with cacao hailing all the way from Pahang!
Price
Prices can vary at this cafe, but the standard white coffee will run you for RM14, whilst chocolate drinks (their speciality) will cost anywhere between RM14 to RM16! And the meals aren’t too pricey either, with the all-day breakfast menu ranging from RM12 to RM22!

4. Giraffe Coffee
Who doesn’t love a themed cafe? Visit this spot if you’re keen on statues and paintings of the world’s tallest land mammal! Aside from the decor though, Giraffe Coffee used to be a coffee supplier, transporting beans from South America to Southeast Asia and Africa. So you just know the coffee here is delish!

Menu
Serving Western cuisine that’s typical for cafe fare, our recommendation would be the pizzas! The beef pepperoni curls up beautifully in the oven, and that handmade pizza crust? I still dream about it. Alternatively, give the Mushroom Vege Burger a shot! I personally love mushrooms, so this was a hit for me!
Price
For a pretty big pizza, it’ll cost you RM28! And the rest of their similarly sized dishes run along the RM30 range!

5. Monograph Cafe & Dining
Tun H.S Lee Road’s new cafe struts in with a finesse unlike any other, spearheaded by the very same individuals who founded Niko Neko Matcha! Serving unique dishes with flavours playing on Mediterranean and Japanese touches, Monograph Cafe & Dining’s dark and moody interior really sets the tone!

Menu
The must-try while you’re here, in my opinion, would be the Japanese Beef Curry with Turmeric Rice and Kampung Egg Omelette, which is super flavourful and has a seriously satisfying and homey mouthfeel, especially with the luscious texture of the omelette. Another must-try would be the Sicilian-style Spaghetti with Moroccan Sardines, which is not too fishy and really hearty!
Price
Dishes are rather fairly priced here, averaging around the RM15 to RM40 range, depending on what you order. The Sicilian-style Spaghetti with Moroccan Sardines, for example, only costs RM23!

6. Flapdoodle Coffee
A stand-out from the auto shops and legendary generational Chinese restaurants around the area, Flapdoodle Coffee is currently in their soft launch stage! Serving pastries and delectable coffee, this spot aims to start serving more substantial offerings in the future!

Menu
Something you have to try while patronising Flapdoodle Coffee is their signature Banana Latte, a really creamy affair that’s perfect paired with their in-house baked pastries! The banana loaf, for instance, is a sweet, nutty, fluffy delight! Also try their Lemon Croissant Cube, a citrusy and unique take on the French croissant!
Price
For the Banana Latte, it’ll run you for RM14, whilst a standard cup of coffee costs a mere RM9! And for the pastries, they tend to linger around the RM10 range, plus minus!

7. MMM Cafe by Lesim
Yoghurt cubes! Get your yoghurt cubes here! They’re super trendy right now, and they’re pretty much all you can eat at MMM Cafe by Lesim! Located in Lot 10, this new spot brings a refreshing, yoghurt-y touch to the area!

Menu
The tip here is to mix and match your flavours so that you can get a different bite every time! But which flavours should you mix? We’ll tell you! The Pink Bobo Peach is really authentically fruity, with none of that artificial peach flavour so many of us despise, and the Mango Pomelo Sago is creamy, refreshing, and satisfying all rolled into one!
Price
It all depends on the size of your yoghurt cube appetite! A mini, coming with 3 yoghurt cubes, costs RM8.9. A small, with 6 yoghurt cubes, costs RM13.90, and a large, with 9 yoghurt cubes, costs RM19.90!
