Hidden gems are often right in front of us. If you’re fan of classic hawker fare, you likely know this spot. Nestled in Uptown Damansara’s open-air food court, Steven Western Corner serves a legendary chicken chop loved by PJ locals and Damansara residents.

This nostalgic dish is a perfect example of timeless comfort food. For patrons, visiting Steven Western Corner feels like discovering—or, rediscovering, for the regulars—a gem hiding in plain sight.

The classic OG Western joint

The stall’s variety also adds to its charm. You can choose a perfectly grilled chicken chop with smokey edges, or opt for the crispy, golden-battered version.

The menu goes beyond chicken chop, offering Western classic like grilled lamb chops, steaks, and fish and chips. Pair your meal with their signature mushroom or black pepper sauce, with the latter priced slightly higher.

25+ years of service

For over 25 years, this humble Western corner in Uptown Damansara has been a cherished fixture in the hawker food scene, winning the hearts—and stomachs—of countless diners.

With a reputation that has stood the test of time, it’s no surprise that the stall has racked up more than 700 reviews on Google, flaunting a solid 4-star rating.

Back in the good’ ol days, you could easily snag a chicken chop from this stall for under RM8. Now, a single plate will set you back a whopping RM21.

While this price is still relatively lower than what you’d find at a full-fledged Western restaurant, diners have recently noted, through Google Reviews, that the value isn’t what it used to be.

Complaints have surfaced in the past year about shrinking portions alongside rising prices and regulars now question whether the food court experience justifies the current cost.

The open-air dining area has been repeatedly described as dirty and stuffy. Environment wise, airflow and cleanliness need to be improved.

Despite these recent issues, the stall has not lost its customer loyalty, as the meals continue to deliver in terms of taste and quality, keeping it from falling out of favour entirely.

Why do people keep coming back for more?

It is clear that the chicken chop is the star of the show at this hawker stall. Each order of chicken chop comes with coleslaw, french fries, a fried egg, and your choice of sauce.

This is truly an old-school style chicken chop and two things have not changed in the past 25+ years: taste and quality.

Diners are obsessed with the homemade sauces at this eatery, especially the black pepper sauce, which has a bold flavour and a subtle spicy kick. The mushroom sauce is lighter, but tastes just as good. The only downside is that it doesn’t actually have any mushrooms in it, which makes it more of a brown sauce.

Reviews have highlighted how the chicken is consistently well-cooked. Tender and seasoned to perfection, you are never met with dry chicken at this stall.

The separate components also complement each other seamlessly. The coleslaw is creamy and comforting and the fries are crispy and well-salted. The fried egg adds to the overall portion.

Each plate comes together beautifully with bold, old-school flavours. When you combine all the elements, each mouthful floods you with a sense of nostalgia.

Worth the visit?

Clearly, striking a subtle balance between delivering delicious meals and giving customers a taste of nostalgia, is what preserves customer loyalty at Steven Western Corner.

It’s understandable why customers just can’t get enough and are willing to overlook the recent inconveniences.

If you love chicken chop and are willing to pay RM21 at a hawker centre, then you have to check this place out.

However, if you are not someone who can dine comfortably in an open-air, stuffy environment, or if you prioritise eating in a very hygienic environment, it might not be for you.
