If you like getting tipsy, why aren’t you at Malaysia’s first alcoholic bingsu spot in Puchong?

Due to the hot and humid weather, it is not surprising that Malaysians love cold desserts. From ais kacang and cendol to smoothies and bingsus. Speaking of bingsus, have you tried out alcoholic bingsus?

Oh, come on. Don’t look that shocked. Whatever food exists out there, you can bet someone tried adding alcohol to it. The Korean ice dessert was next on the hit list. Unsurprisingly enough, iced desserts and alcohol go quite well together.

The first alcoholic bingsu spot in M’sia

If you want to taste such a combo yourself, head on over to Starman Coffee. It is a relatively young cafe located in the food hub of Puchong. It also claims to be the first Malaysian eatery to serve alcoholic bingsu.

Moving away from the boozy bingsu for just a moment, Starman Coffee is a pretty charming eatery with warm, inviting decor. With pastries, coffee and some warm food, this is the place to have a luncheon with one’s friends.

4 alcohols, 1 bingsu

But you aren’t here for lunch, are you? You are here to get boozy. If that’s indeed the case, you have to try the Kopi Wine ‘Ngi’. RM50 may sound like a lot to pay for a bingsu, but it is worth the price. Trust me on this!

For one, this bingsu comes with a whopping four different types of alcohol. These are tuak, moutai, soju and frangelico. Amusingly enough, before eating the bingsu, you are given a shot of tuak and a shot of moutai to consume beforehand.

Even the condensed milk topping uses a generous amount of soju. Personally, while the moutai was not to my taste, the tuak certainly was. The heaty sensation you feel afterwards is best remedied with a spoonful of cold bingsu.

Guinness bingsu, my love

A good bingsu as that was, my fave simply has to be the Guinness Milk Tea Bingsu (RM35.90). Guinness beer and bingsu, who would have thought! The pairing of Thai milk tea beer is incredible! The beer-infused syrup is the kicker, adding a certain richness to the bingsu.

Sweet, sour, bitter in 1 bingsu

Also deserving of mention is the Campari Charm (RM46.90). If you like walking the line between bittersweet and sour, this bingsu will be right up your alley. The Italian red bitter liqueur complements the sweet and sour strawberry syrup all so perfectly.

Other bingsus worth looking out for are the Tommy Calamansi and Chocolate Whisky bingsu. Needless to say, you will probably won’t be able to try all these bingsus in one sitting. Unless you don’t plan on driving home, of course.

Drinks for the durian lovers

Aside from having alcoholic bingsus, Starman Coffee is in an experimental phase with its drinks. Look at the Durian Houjicha (RM14.90) and Roasted Milo Durian (RM14.90)! Of the two, the latter has my vote, with its smooth foam and turmeric aroma.

Warm food for the soul

If you are in need of hot food, Starman Coffee has a selection of dishes worth surveying. I have a fondness for the Mushroom Pesto (RM19.90), with its creamy, al dente pasta. The Chicken Lasagne (RM26.90), on the other hand, was really filling!

Worth your time?

All things considered though, Starman Coffee is the place you want to bring some binge-drinking friends along. Just call a few of the alcoholic bingsus on the menu and share them around. Be sure you have a designated driver, though!
