On 13 December 2022, the MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur and Penang presented its inaugural selection and awarded Bib Gourmand distinction to of a total of 32 restaurants and food establishments in Malaysia.
With 15 based in Kuala Lumpur and 17 in Penang, the selected restaurants were judged based on the same five criteria:
- Quality of the ingredients;
- Mastery of cooking techniques;
- Harmony of the flavours;
- Expression of the chef’s personality in the cuisine; and
- Consistency over time and across the menu.
Among the eateries selected by MICHELIN Guide Malaysia 2023, these four are awarded with one MICHELIN star!
1. Dewakan (Kuala Lumpur)

2. DC by Darren Chin (Kuala Lumpur)

A gem in TTDI, serving modern French cuisine in a 3-storey building built in the 1970s. Each floor provides different dining experience, where first floor being DC restaurant’s main dining area.

A great option for fine dining in the beautiful Penang – Restaurant au Jardin serves modern European artisan menu developed by Chef Kim Hock. You can expect carefully but boldly crafted dishes that reflect both culinary tradition and innovation.
Do note that Restaurant au Jardin has a smart dress code during evenings – “Jackets are preferred, shirt with a collar, long pants and covered footwear are required for gentlemen”.
