Can you claim you’ve had nasi lemak in every form imaginable? How about in a sandwich? Get ready to feel the heat, because Sezty Eatz is here to shake up the spice—literally. This food truck in PJ is creating a buzz with their mouth-watering chicken varuval and inventive nasi lemak sandwich. Yes, sandwich.
If you haven’t already tried it, you might just be missing out on one of the most exciting twists on a beloved classic.
All good meals start with tossing a bunch of ingredients into a pot

Sezty Eatz is the brainchild of Lotus and Pravindran, a dynamic couple who decided to spice up the local food scene with their food truck business.
Although they just hit the road in August this year, their unique offerings have already earned them a loyal following. Vin, 36, with 17 years of experience in the F&B industry, and his wife Lotus, 31, knew it was time to take the plunge and start something special together. Their ‘eureka moment’ came while watching the movie Chef (seriously, who doesn’t love that film?).
Lotus, an avid nasi lemak fan, revealed in an interview that if she had to eat just one dish for the rest of her life, it would definitely be nasi lemak. Whether for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this Malaysian staple is her ultimate comfort food.
Instead of sticking to the usual ayam goreng berempah that we all know and love, Lotus decided to use her mother’s 30-year-old chicken varuval recipe, creating her own twist on the national dish. The result? A game-changing dish that’s stealing the spotlight: Nasi Lemak Ayam Varuval Goncang.
The story behind the chicken varuval is a cute one, one that many of us can probably relate to with our own family recipes. One day, Lotus’s mother decided to toss some leftover spices and aromatics into a pan. Being a vegetarian, she used mock chicken and dubbed it a varuval. It quickly became a family favourite and a new recipe was born.
Calm down meat lovers, Lotus’s version uses real chicken, and it’s guaranteed to blow your mind.
Shake it ’til you can’t take it

Here’s the kicker, folks. At Sezty Eatz, they bring the heat—but only if you want it. So the question is: what’s your spice limit?
Their chicken varuval comes with a fiery choice of three spice levels: Pedas Manja, Pedas Ok-Jer, and Pedas Giler. Lotus is all about those Kashmiri chili flakes, adding just the right amount of slow-burn heat to each bite.
Magic happens when Vin, a former mixologist, shakes things up. Quite literally. You can’t call it ayam varuval goncang and not have a little goncang action. Using his bar skills, he shakes the whole thing together like he’s making a cocktail—because you can take the man out of the bar, but you can’t take the bar out of the man. Jokes aside, the shaking isn’t just for show. It helps incorporate air, which evenly distributes the spices and ensures every bite is packed with that bold, intense flavour.
What really put Sezty Eatz on the map, though, is their Nasi Lemak Wanpaku Sandwich. Picture everything you love about classic nasi lemak—sambal, ikan bilis, peanuts, and an egg—then boom, it’s all packed into a hearty, stuffed sandwich. Talk about comfort food with a twist. The best part? It hits all the right spots.
Let’s get into it.
MFT’s review

The Nasi Lemak Wanpaku Sandwich is priced at RM12 for the ala carte option, but for just RM20, you can grab the combo, which includes their refreshing Pandan Lemonade. Each sandwich is made fresh to order, and trust us, it’s a must-try. I mean, where else are you going to find a nasi lemak sandwich?
Perfect for a grab-and-go lunch, this sandwich is so filling that you might even want to share it with a friend (or not, no judgment here). The sandwich starts with a generous spread of sambal on soft bread, layered with all the classic nasi lemak essentials. It’s thick, loaded with a generous amount of chicken varuval and fresh veggies. An epic nasi lemak sandwich. No complaints here, people.

Our top pick? The Nasi Lemak Ayam Varuval Goncang, hands down. Priced at RM13 for the ala carte and RM21 for the combo. We went all in with the Pedas Giler spice level—yes, we got a little too excited. We can confidently say, it delivered on the spice front. Phew! This one packed an intense, spicy punch that hit with a slow burn. We could also taste a hint of bitterness from the dry chili. If you can’t handle your heat, play it safe and go for Pedas Ok-Jer or even Pedas Manja (Hey, no shame in the game).
Now, while it might be a bit pricier than your typical nasi lemak, trust us, the portion size makes it totally worth it. You get a generous serving of chicken, because there ain’t no skimping at Sezty Eatz. The pandan rice added a fragrant twist, a nice change from the typical santan rice, while the sambal, slow-cooked for 7-8 hours, sported the perfect balance between sweet and spicy. The chicken? It had been ‘goncang-ed’ to perfection, with bold, deep flavours that left our taste buds buzzing.

Their special Pandan Lemonade perfectly balanced pandan, lemongrass, and lime. It was light, refreshing, and the perfect accompaniment to the heat of the chicken varuval. You’ll love it.
Now that’s a zesty food truck
