9 new restaurants to check out this September

september restaurant listicle

With these many long weekends this September, you can bet I will be using my free time to the fullest. And what better way to spend that time than by visiting the handful of new restaurants which have opened up this month?

As per usual, there is a lot of variety between these September babies, with some being classy establishments and others homelier eateries. Either way, you can bet I will be checking them out, perhaps on the Malaysia Day weekend. After all, what’s more Malaysian than makan?

  1. Bacio Italian Kitchen

I can never have enough Italian food, and this also seems to be the case for the local restaurant industry as well. A new Italian restaurant has popped up in B.Lot Mont Kiara, a long-established foodie haven.

A pork-free eatery, you have classic Italian offerings like Fritto di Mare and Tagliatelle al Ragu di Agnello. Meat lovers are going to love the Tagliata di Manzo alla Griglia, which is a black angus ribeye grilled over a bed of charcoal. Plus, there are more pizzas here than you could ever ask for!

Address: B.Lot MK, Block B, Kiosk 5, Lot 1908, Jalan Kiara 5, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur

  1. Gamtan

Singapore has food? Who would have thought it? As it turns out, our southerly neighbour has sent us a gift in the form of Gamtan, a Korean restaurant which will be opening its first outlet here on 11 Sept.

In Singapore, the restaurant is famous for being the only place which serves King Galbi. This is a super premium rib cut that is marinated for about six hours. Will Malaysians get this melt-in-your-mouth meat? We will have to wait and see!

Address: 74, Jalan 27/70A, Desa Sri Hartamas, 50480 Kuala Lumpur

  1. A Long Table

This restaurant in RexKL is bound to be one of the newest, strangest dining experiences. The owners are well-travelled and opened this place after being inspired by Japanese teahouses. It is a communal restaurant, with one long table shared by guests.

While one might think this would be a nightmare for introverts, A Long Table encourages guests to enjoy their drinks in peace and quiet. The menu is heavily tea-based, but it is likely that collaborations with other eateries will be a mainstay at this restaurant.

Address: 1F, REXKLUP, 32, Jalan Hang Lekir, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur

  1. Omna

Have I mentioned I like pizza? Because I love pizza. And thus, it is my sworn duty to visit Omna by this September. It is an Italian place with wood-fired pizza and a pasta parlour, operating at Cantara Retail in PJ.

The Omna Signature Pizza is probably the one pizza I must try. It is apparently inspired by carbonara and is thus laden with beef bacon, mushrooms and egg yolk. God, my mouth is watering already, and I haven’t even talked about the Wagyu Wonder Burger!

Address: G-LG-05, Cantara Retail Jalan PJU 1A/42B Pusat Dagangan NZX, Ara Damansara, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

  1. Looozer

This matcha specialist spent the last year moving around as a pop-up stall. And this September, that journey finally comes to an end as Loozer settles itself at home at its very own physical outlet in The Pocket, Sungai Besi.

The place has chic, industrial vibes and the menu continues to shine the spotlight on its speciality matcha drinks. For someone like me who is not that hard up over matcha, the “fizzers” aka coconut cloud drinks, will definitely be on my to-try list.

Address: F1, 1st floor, The Pocket, 139, Jln Sungai Besi, Pudu, 57100 Sungai Besi, WP Kuala Lumpur

  1. The Bread Bar

The Bread Bar in TTDI has long been my favourite spot when I want a fresh loaf in my mouth. So imagine my delight that there’s a new outlet in Publika. Now there’s one more place to get my sourdough and croissants.

Impressively, this place is not just going to open for the breakfast and brunch crowds. This new outlet will also have a dinner menu, with beef char siu and jerk chicken available. It is going to be hard not to stay here all day, for sure!

Address: Lot 52 & 53, Block B3, Level G2, Publika Shopping Gallery, 1, Jln Dutamas 1, Solaris Dutamas, 50480 Kuala Lumpur

  1. Merdeka Grill

Appropriate that this restaurant would show up on this month of national pride. Merdeka Grill is located within the brand-new Park Hyatt which is perched atop Merdeka 118, Malaysia’s tallest tower. After all, it’s a good thing I don’t have a fear of heights!

A lunch and dinner place, Merdeka Grill prides itself with providing guests with delicious grilled meats plus a gorgeous panoramic view of KL. Lunch is either a three-course meal or a la carte grilled dishes. So, what’s tickling your fancy? Lamb? Beef? Chicken?

Address: Warisan Merdeka Tower, Level 75, Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, Presint Merdeka 118, 50118 Kuala Lumpur

  1. Curr’s Curries

The phrase “all things spice and everything nice” comes to mind when I first saw news about this new restaurant. It is a place that prides itself with serving all sorts of curries, including local and foreign varieties.

Among the menu items are assam pedas fish curry, dhal ramen and wasabi green chicken curry. So if you ever get bored of one type of curry, you can just try another! Plus, you won’t believe just how good the Curr’s Original Wagyu Curry until you try it yourself!

Address: Starhill Gallery, Lot L129-1, Level 1 (Eslite Floor), 181, Jln Bukit Bintang, Bukit Bintang, 55100 Wilayah Persekutuan

  1. Trattoria Mialino

What’s better than an ordinary sandwich? An Italian sandwich, of course. As it happens, this new restaurant in RexKL is serving Italian sandwiches plus the classics. It’s Trattoria Mialino, home of sourdough ciabatta sandwiches and flatbreads!

This place opens for both lunch and dinner and has a large variety of cured meats for you to pack your sandwich with. If you aren’t hungry for bread, there’s also many pastas to choose from, like the goat’s milk Shepherd Carbonara and the tangy Nduja Puttanesca.
