Classic Malaysian Western food, as different as it is from traditional food of the West, holds a special place in every Malaysian’s heart. Fish and chips, pasta, lamb chops, chicken chops, the works. The only issue is, eating out at these western spots can certainly be pricey. Well, we’ve found an RM9.90 sizzling chicken chop in Kepong! P.S. Yes, it’s the viral MangoBox food truck!
Sizzle sizzle

Everything here is served on a hot, sizzling plate. Traditional? Maybe not to Westerners. But this is a surefire sign of classic Malaysian Western food. The nostalgia of the snap, crackle and pop as your meal sizzles away on a too-hot plate is simply unbeatable.
The history of the ‘sizzler’ originates from Mumbai, India, surprisingly enough! A man inspired by Americanised Japanese Teppanyaki in California started the unique cooking process of placing meats, veggies and more on a hot stone plate and firing it up under the grill.
The smoky aromas and the tantalising symphony of sizzle whet the appetite in the most tempting way, and we simply couldn’t resist the food here either!
Classic chicken chop

Of course, you can’t go to a spot famous for its RM9.90 sizzling chicken chop and proceed to not order it. So we got two! You can opt for a variety of sauces to go with your chicken chop, but we opted for the OG black pepper. And wow, the combination of black pepper and savoury dark gravy was just a nostalgia bomb of classic Malaysian Western flavour.
Juicy, tender chicken that’s generously portioned, and of course, sizzling hot! You can ensure every bite at this spot is hot and fresh off the grill! I mean, you’re quite literally eating off it. Furthermore, the fact that this massive portion of food only sells at RM9.90 is quite literally blowing our minds.
Other eats
Other popular menu items include the Beef Meatballs with Mashed Potatoes, which are great and definitely a tier above the well-known IKEA meatballs. And definitely give the lamb skewers a try, they’re seriously meaty and perfectly seasoned for that seriously satisfying bite!
Often served with a majority of their dishes as a side is, oddly enough, kimchi! Piquant and refreshing, we personally adore this unique Asian touch to Western fare.
And whilst we’re talking about the food, how about some jumbo-sized drinks to wash it all down? You’ll definitely be impressed by the standard size of beverages at this locale; as if your meal couldn’t have more value for your money already!
The pasta here is standard, not particularly al-dente, but certainly not mushy either. And flavoured with the perfect amount of herbs and spices, they’re a satisfying addition to any protein of your heart’s desires!
