Penang is known for its heritage streets and lively food scene, yet there are still quiet pockets on the island where you can escape the bustle entirely. Lexis Suites Penang, set along the peaceful shores of Teluk Kumbar, is one of those places. Every suite in the hotel comes with its own private pool, which makes it an ideal choice for travellers who want privacy, comfort and a slower pace by the sea.
First impressions
The team welcomed us with warm, genuine smiles that set an inviting tone. The lobby interior was elegant, with clear attention to detail in its design. The hotel has 222 suites in total, all spacious and thoughtfully furnished. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open onto private balconies, giving the rooms plenty of natural light and a view that immediately puts you in holiday mode.
We stayed in the Premium Pool Suite. It felt luxurious without being stiff. The suite comes with two large king-size beds, a private steam room and, the highlight for most guests, a private pool overlooking the sea. The ocean stretched ahead of us in an uninterrupted line. There was a quiet joy in knowing that this little pocket of paradise was all ours to enjoy.

A standout experience during our stay was Tides of Passion, a private floating dining set-up arranged in our pool. The tray arrived beautifully assembled with garden sandwiches, French pastries, fresh fruit, mixed dried fruits, a cheese platter and two cocktails. Guests can also upgrade to include a bottle of house wine.
The privacy made it even better. No splashing from other guests, no crowd noise, just the sound of waves and the gentle movement of water in our pool. It was intimate and exactly the kind of moment people hope for when they book a suite with its own pool.
Dining options

Lexis Suites Penang offers several dining venues to explore. Our first stop was the Afternoon Tea Soirée at Satellite Restaurant and Bar, located at the hotel’s highest level. It is bright and relaxed during the day, then transforms into a more energetic bar in the evening.
We tried two cocktails. De Bayou, made with Malibu, pineapple juice, rum, egg, honey and lime, had a light tropical flavour. The Clipper, prepared with bourbon, cherry brandy, martini, honey, rose syrup, lime juice and soda water, was balanced and refreshing. Their mocktails, Watermelon Sunset and Pomegranate Hibiscus Mint Tea, were also enjoyable. We returned the next day and settled in with a bucket of beer. The staff remembered us, which made the hospitality feel authentic.

For main meals, the all-day dining restaurant serves both buffet and à la carte selections. Breakfast deserves a mention, as it genuinely lives up to its reputation among hotel guests. The pau was especially good. Soft, fluffy and better than many we have had at casual neighbourhood stalls.
We also visited UMI Japanese Restaurant and ordered the Claypot Seafood in Sake. Dining in a private tatami room added a cultural touch that made the experience feel more considered. The hotel also has the Sky Terrace, an open-air space with a fountain feature and seating for about fifty guests. It works well for gatherings or a relaxed evening outdoors.
Amenities worth mentioning

Most facilities sit on Level 8, which keeps everything accessible. Families will appreciate the indoor playground. We enjoyed the game room, which became an unexpected favourite. There is also a karaoke room that seemed well used throughout our stay.

The same floor is home to the gym and the public swimming pool. Even so, most guests appear to prefer spending time in their private pools. Business travellers will find meeting rooms and event halls available for corporate needs.
Our three nights passed quickly. The combination of privacy, attentive service and the novelty of having our own pool made it an easy place to settle into. Checking out felt a little reluctant, which is usually the sign of a stay well spent.
If you are planning a Penang getaway that prioritises comfort, privacy and personalised hospitality, Lexis Suites Penang is worth considering.
