The relentless sun has been scorching our backs for weeks, leaving us drenched in sweat and fantasizing about relocating to Antarctica. While such an extreme move isn’t quite feasible, seeking solace at Binq feels like finding an oasis in the desert.

Nestled in Kuala Lumpur’s very own K-Town, Desa Sri Hartamas, this bingsu haven offers a cool escape with its delightful array of shaved ice desserts. At Binq, finely shaved ice meets a variety of flavours and textures, offering irresistible combinations of refreshing treats.

I’m highly aware that there are many bingsu and shaved ice dessert spots dotted around KL and PJ. But since its debut not too long ago, Binq has managed to carve out a special place in my heart. Join me as I explore what makes this bingsu haven my ultimate go-to for a cool treat.

Binq made its debut towards the end of September last year, quickly becoming a sensation among foodies and dessert lovers. It offers the perfect blend of fun toppings, unique flavors, and quality shaved ice, all within a chic, aesthetically pleasing interior. Recently, Binq opened its second outlet in SS15.

Desa Sri Hartamas and SS15 have something in common: parking is a nightmare. And just to test your patience a bit more, the shareable nature of bingsu makes it a popular choice for groups looking to beat the heat together. As a result, both Binq outlets are usually packed, especially in the evenings and nights. Yet, despite the long queues and parking woes, customers keep coming back for more.

Binq offers seven distinct bingsu flavors, each tailored to the Malaysian palate. For those craving something fresh or tangy, the Kumquat Jasmine is a must-try. If you have a sweet tooth, The Dark Knight, a dark chocolate bingsu, will satisfy your cravings. Their latest addition, a fruity Mango bingsu, comes with sago, grapefruit, and a selection of toppings to suit your taste.

Worried about lactose intolerance? No problem! Binq offers oat milk alternatives for three of their flavours.

The toppings game at Binq is strong. With each bingsu order, you can choose up to three different toppings from a long list of options:

Brown sugar jelly, white sugar jelly, peach popping boba, passion fruit popping boba, taro ball, mini taro balls, soybean-coated mochi, milo-coated mochi, nata de coco, aiyu jelly, red bean, cream cheese, butter crisp, lotus biscoff crumbs, toasted coconut, and roasted almond nuts.

See what I mean?

MFT’s Review

Now let’s get into why I love their bingsu.

I started with their bestseller, the Roasted Soybean Oolong bingsu, priced at RM23. From my first bite, I could tell that Binq’s bingsu is different. Unlike other spots where the ice is barely flavoured, Binq’s shaved ice is infused with a rich oolong tea flavor that melts perfectly on your tongue. The ice is soft, airy, and incredibly fine, making for a delightful texture.

The toppings, like the soybean-coated mochi and taro balls, were perfectly sweetened and added a fun chewiness to the dessert. These toppings are served in small bowls on the side, a thoughtful touch you won’t find at every bingsu spot. And tucked under the mountain of ice, you’ll find surprise toppings like aiyu jelly, adding an extra layer of delight.

The toppings, combined with the fluffy oolong infused ice, made it the first time I genuinely enjoyed every bite of a bingsu, from the first spoonful to the last.

The bingsu at Binq is served in a metal bowl, which helps keep the ice cold for longer, so you don’t have to rush to finish your dessert before it turns into soup. This thoughtful and intentional serving choice is something I truly appreciate as a paying customer.

My Binq Favourites

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, I tried their Signature White Peach Oolong bingsu, also priced at RM23.

Not to be dramatic, but this is my idea of a perfect bowl of bingsu. The white peach flavor is distinct, creamy, and perfectly sweetened, with a subtle, refreshing kick that balances the flavor profile. Despite its creaminess, it doesn’t leave a sticky or heavy feeling in your mouth. Paired with my favorite toppings, cream cheese and taro balls, this bingsu is an absolute treat. For the flavour, portion size, and variety of toppings, I’d say the price is more than reasonable.

While I have been raving about the bingsu, my ultimate favourite at Binq is actually their Roasted Da Hong Pao Milk Tea, priced at RM13.

As a bubble tea aficionado, I’ve tried most of the brands out there, yet Binq’s milk tea surprised me in the best way possible. It quickly earned a top spot on my list. When I’m craving a creamy drink, their Roasted Da Hong Pao is my go-to. Topped with a layer of in-house cream cheese, each sip is a delightful blend of light, fragrant milk tea and luscious, salty cream cheese. It’s smooth, creamy, and feels like a dessert in itself. Plus, you can customise the ice and sugar levels to your liking.

To Binq or not to Binq

With impressive Google ratings—4.7 stars for the Hartamas branch and 4.8 stars for the SS15 branch—Binq is a clear favorite among locals. So, to Binq or not to Binq? For me, it’s a definite yes. While I can’t vouch for all their flavors, everything I’ve tried so far has been spot on. Personally, Binq’s bingsu is the perfect treat for our Malaysian ‘summer’ or whenever you’re craving a soothing and cooling dessert.

As mentioned earlier, both outlets are consistently crowded, especially in the evenings. It’s clear that Binq isn’t just my favorite spot, but a popular choice for all who know what it has to offer.
