Some nights in KL begin quietly and then unfold into something you didn’t plan for. My night at Bambino was exactly that. I arrived expecting to try one or two drinks and leave before midnight.
Instead, I ended up with six cocktails in front of me and the sudden realisation that each one had the personality of a zodiac sign. Matcha, chai, whisky, gin, all glowing under Bambino’s warm golden lights like little astrological messengers ready to expose me.
Bambino carries a retro, first-class-lounge charm that catches you off guard. The lighting is soft, the mood is warm, and even before the first sip, it feels like you have stepped into the golden age of air travel. And this was intentional, it is the era that inspired their “BAM01” concept. Even the entrance bar mimics a first-class airline lounge.
Later in the evening, once the DJs step in from mid-week onwards, the space shifts into something livelier, nostalgic, and surprisingly addictive.
But I am on a different mission this time, a mission to reimagine each of these cocktails as zodiac signs in this review.
Matcha Berry = Libra + Sagittarius
Creamy oatmilk, raspberry purée, earthy matcha, and vodka in the background. It tasted like a matcha strawberry latte that decided to rebel. Sweet, milky, slightly chaotic, but instantly addictive.
This drink has big Libra plus Sagittarius energy, pretty, sweet, a total people-pleaser at first sip, then suddenly chaotic once the vodka kicks in. It is basically that friend who says “I’ll behave tonight” then convinces you to order shots. Libras will fall for the aesthetics, Sagittarians will fall for the drama, and honestly both of them will finish this faster than they meant to.
The bartender explained that within the Matcha Trio, the Berry is the playful one, something “familiar but with a twist,” designed for guests who prefer sweeter profiles. Without question, this became my favourite of the night.
Matcha Martini = Capricorn + Scorpio
If the Berry is the fun cousin, the Martini is the composed older sibling. Rich matcha upfront, silky oatmilk underneath, and a slow burn that arrives only after a few sips. It’s a matcha latte that studied abroad, returned refined, and speaks with a new accent.
The Matcha Martini is pure Capricorn and Scorpio DNA. Polished, serious, the “I don’t need attention, attention needs me” type of drink. It starts off calm and composed, then reveals this deep, slow-building intensity that feels like emotional tax. Capricorns will admire its discipline, Scorpios will admire its secrecy, and everyone else will wonder why they suddenly feel intimidated by a cocktail. It’s the type of drink that watches the room quietly and knows it’s better than everyone there.
When I commented on its smoothness, the bartender revealed that it goes through a milk-washing technique that clarifies the drink. It explains the clean, velvety finish, which also makes it a Ladies Night favourite.
Matcha Yuzu = Aquarius + Gemini
This was the brightest personality in the Matcha Trio lineup. Sharp citrus, slight bitterness from the peel, a refreshing, and very crisp finish. I can see why the bartender calls it their bestselling matcha drink, the appeal hits you instantly.
This drink was a true Aquarius and Gemini hybrid, sharp one second and breezy the next. It changes moods in the span of a sip, which is very on-brand. It has that slightly unhinged, unpredictable sparkle that keeps you on your toes and somehow wins you over instantly. Geminis will love its personality shifts, Aquarians will insist it’s the superior choice because it’s “different”.
Chai Milk Tea = Cancer + Pisces
Warm, spicy, sweet, and cosy, like a chai latte at first, until the vodka settles in with a delayed punch. The bartender said it was created after noticing how many customers enjoy “comfort drinks with a twist.”
The Chai Milk Tea screams Cancer and Pisces, warm and nostalgic at the start, then suddenly emotional chaos when the vodka decides to appear like unresolved feelings. It is comforting, dramatic, and low-key addictive, like the beverages equivalent of texting your best friend at 1am to talk about life. Cancers will feel seen, Pisces will probably cry.
Mandarin Curry Gin = Aries + Virgo
Welcome the biggest plot twist of the night. I braced myself for something bizarre, but it turned out unexpectedly smooth. Tart at first, then mandarin notes, then a gentle spice. A calm drink that grows on you, not one that comes in all guns blazing.
This drink is Aries fire with Virgo precision. It charges at you with tart citrus and spice like an Aries starting an argument for fun, then suddenly becomes shockingly balanced and thoughtful, very Virgo cleaning up the mess.
It is bold, experimental, slightly unhinged, but ultimately successful, which is exactly how both signs operate. It’s the chaos-and-order duo you didn’t know you needed.
Golden Hour Whiskey = Leo + Taurus
The strongest personality of the night: cinnamon first, whisky next, citrus after. My first sip made me cough, just slightly. The bartender said it’s one of the drinks that established Bambino’s early reputation, crafted during their menu development phase to suit their regulars, a crowd that leans towards premium spirits, classic flavours, and subtle twists.
This is a Leo–Taurus power couple, dramatic at first sip, warm and indulgent after. It enters with cinnamon heat, demands the spotlight, and expects applause. Then, once it settles, it becomes luxurious, smooth, and comforting in a very Taurus “I only drink premium things” way. Leos will love the theatrics, Tauruses will love the expensive-feeling finish.
What stayed with me after the last sip
Somewhere between the fourth and sixth drink, the owner stopped by to talk about how Bambino found its space in KL’s nightlife scene. While many bars lean into heavy electronic music, they prefer a warm mix of pop, R&B, and nostalgic throwbacks, the kind of playlist that turns strangers into backup singers.
Their crowd shifts through the week: calm after-work regulars on weekdays, full-on party mode on weekends, polished spenders, couples on dates, and girl groups chasing Ladies Night deals.
By the end of the night, I realised Bambino wasn’t just serving drinks. They were creating moments rooted in familiarity, then dressed up for nightlife. Matcha, berries, chai, oatmilk, these are all flavours people know and love, but given a fresh, thoughtful makeover.
And with every sip, the zodiac personalities became even clearer, almost embarrassingly so. The sweet chaos of Libra-Sagittarius, the moody confidence of Capricorn-Scorpio, the airy unpredictability of Aquarius-Gemini, the emotional comfort of Cancer-Pisces, the bold precision of Aries-Virgo, and the dramatic indulgence of Leo-Taurus.
I enjoyed all six cocktails, but the one that kept coming back to mind was the Matcha Berry, the one that tasted like dessert, girly fun, and a hint of trouble all at once. And yes, yours truly is a Sagittarius.
