Work in an office? Standard. Work from home? Comfy. Work from a café? Trendy. But my personal preference? Remote work from a café on an island, with the sea breeze in my hair. And I did that in Langkawi, about an hour’s flight from Kuala Lumpur.
I know what you’re thinking. It’s Langkawi. Why the [redacted] are you working instead of frolicking by the beach? Ah, clearly you’re unfamiliar with my unhealthy dependence on work productivity as the primary measure of self-worth. Probably something to unpack with my therapist. But I digress.
In no particular order, here are 6 cafés that I found during my week of remote working from Langkawi that served good coffee, had great vibes, and made getting work done almost effortless.
1. Pause Café Langkawi

Located on the second floor, Pause Café is rated highly on Google Maps (4.8 stars as of October 2025) for several reasons.
First, it serves some must-try crispy croffles. A Plain Croffle is RM10.50, and then you can choose your own toppings, each priced separately. I’m all for that because I can then customise it depending on my budget, cravings, or mood of the day.
Service-wise, they may take a little time to serve dishes, but the staff’s warmth and friendliness more than make up for the wait. And finally, the calm and quiet environment is ideal for working or studying. There’s also an outdoor seating area if you’d like to get some fresh air between tasks.
2. Co B Diem Langkawi

You’ll spot Co B Diem Langkawi by its arched wooden doors—one large, one small—a dramatic, almost whimsical entrance that’s like you’re stepping into a secret hideout rather than a café. And whimsical, it is.
Inside, Co B Diem balances playful creativity with charm. You’ll find photo-worthy corners, from a sunlit nook with a living area, to a fun outdoor children’s playzone with colourful pinwheel-like ornaments hanging overhead, and quirky coffee-themed signs.

One wall showcases a bright framed artwork of a bustling café street (featuring Co B Diem themselves too), a comical visual that instantly lifts the spirit. Most importantly though, all these elements serve as the backdrop to a well-lit and conducive environment for a fulfilling day ahead.
While you’re smashing your to-dos, fuel up with their Crunchy Crabby Creation (RM36), a soft-shell crab charcoal burger. Served with a side of their addictive signature pink sauce, cheese sauce, and fresh coleslaw, it is bound to please.
3. Halaman.1295

A little disclaimer beforehand, Halaman.1295 does not have much laptop-friendly seating. This quaint café is connected to a terrace house and occupies the front porch area, hence the name “halaman”.
So cross your all fingers and toes that you’ll be lucky enough to snag the wooden counter spot by the window. It’s a cosy hideaway where sunlight filters in, your iced latte within reach, and the quiet buzz of Langkawi life just beyond the glass.
The owner, Najwan, is deeply passionate about coffee and it shows in his specialty brews. Many customers specifically return for his cup of V60 pour-over.
If you’re a fellow coffee enthusiast, you’ll enjoy chatting with him about beans and brewing methods. But be careful to not get so caught up in conversation that you forget you’re supposed to be working.
4. Howdy Café Langkawi

Howdy Café Langkawi is a Malaysian Western fusion café that feels like a retro-inspired diner with a modern twist. Around the room, tan leather booths and bentwood chairs lend a nostalgic touch, while details like crates of lemons, round warm lighting, and a photo booth corner keep things lively and inviting.
There’s no shortage of seating, and service is consistently warm and attentive. I will admit that prices for the food and drinks are on the higher side. However, if you’re planning to settle in for a long work session, it becomes a little easier to justify the spend.
5. Hidden Langkawi

Ironically, Hidden Langkawi really isn’t hidden, it’s a beachfront restaurant. Yes finally, something on this list that is actually in front of the beach.
I love this place so much that I visited three times throughout my week here. The food is genuinely impressive, I’ve tried so many dishes from their extensive menu. The Fried Calamari (RM25), perfectly crisp. The Penne Creamy Smoked Chicken Mushroom (RM32), absolutely satisfying. The Juicy Beef Truffle Rice Bowl (RM36), wolfed down in mere minutes.
Maybe it’s the sea breeze (I did promise you that in this article’s introduction), or the spectacular view of the ocean stretching into the horizon. Somehow everything hits the right spot that puts me in a good headspace to enjoy the food and purposefully type away at my laptop.
As a reward for being productive, stay till the late evening for a mesmerising sunset, and an incredible fireshow by a group of young, bold performers.
6. Smiling Buffalo Café

This Bali-style eatery has been in Langkawi since 2014 and remains a popular crowd-favourite. Smiling Buffalo Café blends rustic charm with tropical greenery, creating a space that radiates relaxation.
Don’t let its chill and laidback atmosphere distract you too much. They open early at 8am so use that to your advantage, kickstart your day with a hearty breakfast and get that work energy going. The open-air layout keeps things refreshing, and there’s plenty of natural light for a pleasant few hours on your laptop.
Conveniently situated near the airport, it’s also an easy pit stop when you first arrive at Langkawi, or before catching your flight home.
Perhaps one day I’ll learn to take a proper vacation, without my laptop. For now, Langkawi’s cafés make the perfect middle ground. It’s a place where I can pretend I’m relaxed while replying to emails between bites of waffles.
