One of the best parts about Malaysia is, undoubtedly, the food. To be more specific, the abundance of varieties of cultures, blending together to create a harmonious country with plenty of offerings for everybody! Chinese dumplings often aren’t very accessible to our Muslim community, but this shop serves up popular Chinese Muslim dumplings in KL!

Sunny Garden

Popular Chinese Muslim Dumplings

Owned and run by a Chinese Muslim born and raised near the Mongolia-China border, Sunny Garden has been operating for 8 years, serving up some of the best dumplings around.

“Dumplings in China have a very long history, (and) I personally think dumplings are very nice. So that’s why I decided to sell them in Malaysia.”

The owner states, a massive grin on her face.

You just know that the dumplings are authentic, but how do they taste?

Crispy, juicy, silky!

We’ve come to the main event, the dumplings. They come in a few forms: fried, boiled, steamed, and in a soup. They’re popular for their dumplings in general, sure, but the water pan-fried dumplings? They’ve been taking KL by storm for years.

Perfectly crispy due to that crunchy bottom; fanning out like a gorgeous, meat-filled floral display. Don’t believe us? Just listen to this!

They’re also insanely juicy, and so aromatic from the herbs and spices, your taste buds will be transported to Mongolia! The meat is plentiful, and with our order of Fried Beef and Spring Onion Dumplings, lots of spring onion within, making the dumplings even more fragrant.

There’s a specific umami unctuousness that’s really distinct in the fried beef dumplings, or in simpler terms, they taste really, really meaty. And savoury! The large portion of meat within the not-too-thick filling definitely has a hand to play in that.

We also gave their Sam Xin Chicken Steamed Dumplings a try, and though the flavour was milder, they were still entirely enjoyable and surprisingly juicy within!

More than just a dumpling spot

Other than the dumplings, another popular hit at this spot is the Beef La Mian. Hand-pulled noodles in a savoury, spicy broth. It’s a perfect bite in one with the addition of some of the most tender beef slices we’ve ever tried!

And be sure not to miss out on the Peppery Chicken, or La Zi Ji! Crispy chunks of fried chicken paired with authentic Chinese peppers and chilli, it’s a zingy flavour bomb at every bite!

Tea here is a traditional affair, brewing their assorted teas with wolfberries and chrysanthemum, granting a hint of natural and health-imbuing sweetness to each and every cup of the stuff.
