Pad Kra Pow, a beloved Thai stir-fry dish known for its bold flavours and aromatic spices, has captured the hearts and taste buds of food enthusiasts worldwide. Now in Taman Paramount, a new spot awaits those seeking a customisable twist on this classic dish, all for under RM25.00!

Nestled amidst the vibrant food scene in PJ, is Pad Boy. Founded by Malaysians who met at a Thai restaurant in Singapore, this new cafe offers a unique dining experience. Patrons can tailor their Pad Kra Pow according to their preferences, ensuring an enjoyable and satisfactory meal.

What makes this spot a must-visit for Pad Kra Pow fans?

Right off the bat, you’ll notice that Pad Boy, unlike many eateries, offers multiple protein options. You can pick between chicken, pork, beef, prawns, squid, and mushroom! This allows diners to craft their perfect Thai basil stir-fry dish and satisfy their cravings, whether that be seafood or meat. The mushroom protein option gives vegetarians a chance to try their Pad Kra Pow as well!

The customisation does not stop there! We all know Pad Kra Pow is incomplete without a fried egg to top it off. Here, you can pick between a fried egg and a Khai Jiao. Khai Jiao is a crispy Thai omelette that resembles our Malaysian favourite egg foo young.

Their ‘single’ eggs come with the dish you order, but you can choose to add a double or triple for just a few extra Ringgit. Their fried egg promises a gooey, runny yolk that is a signature addition to the Pad Kra Pow dish. This lends a tad bit of moisture and creaminess to elevate the dish.

Step 3 on the customisable order, prompts you to pick between Thai basil, which offers a sweet and peppery touch to your dish; and Holy Basil, which provides more earthy and minty flavours. The flavours are entirely up to you!

“But I can’t handle spicy food!”

Finally, you also have the convenient option of choosing your preferred spice level: Mai spice (not spicy), Baby Phed (slightly spicy), Nit Noi (mildly spicy), Just Nice (medium spicy), and Phed Makk Mak (extra spicy).

For those who prefer a milder flavour profile, you can opt for a lower spice level, while spice enthusiasts can turn up the heat with the Phed Makk Mak, to experience the full intensity of Pad Kra Pow’s fiery goodness.

The Pad Kra Pow in Pad Boy hits the perfect balance between sweet, salty and spicy. It is filled with aromatics that pack a flavour punch and their portions are generous.

“They only have one dish? Not interested!”

In addition to the Thai basil stir-fry offerings, which is the star of Pad Boy, the menu also features an array of side dishes. Their Moo Ping is a must-try, a popular street food in Thailand of meaty pork skewers tossed in a savoury-sweet marinade. This will transport you to the streets of Thailand with every juicy bite! They also have classic sides like crispy chicken skin and succulent siu yuk.
