A bar closing at 1am? Normal. But a tea-based dessert bar closing at 1 am? It’s real & in Puchong

With how much of a sweet tooth Malaysians have, it isn’t surprising that so many dessert spots have popped up lately. Some are cheap, some are pricey. Others, on the other hand, are rather unique establishments, as is evidenced by Puchong’s One Night Dessert Bar.

Welcome to One Night Dessert Bar

Located in a surprisingly quiet part of town, One Night Dessert Bar sits at the far end of a row of shops. For much of the morning and the afternoon, the place sits idle, waiting for nightfall. When that arrives, the place springs to life with customers, two-legged and four-legged.

This pet-friendly dessert spot sets itself apart by opening at otherwise ungodly hours. If you’ve ever had a late-night hankering for some sweet stuff, One Night Dessert Bar is your go-to. The owner believes that nighttime is when most folks are truly themselves, and maybe they’re right!

A tea-based menu

Late operating hours aside, what’s good here? One Night Dessert Bar has a rather tea-based menu, with even their desserts being made with China and Japan-imported teas. Plus, the ingredients used here are all natural, so the menu is fit for the health-conscious.

Perfect teas

Thus, for you tea lovers out there, the Smoky Pu’er should be your first choice. The smoke is infused into the tea using a jar, with cinnamon and hazelnut flavours being used. The tea itself has a distinct smoky flavour, while having a subtle sweet and nutty taste.

Next on the all-tea journey is the Bohea Tea. Inspired by siphon coffees, One Night Dessert Bar has siphon teas, with a total of four on the menu. Rather unusually for a tea, this menu item is served in three stages.

The first stage has you served tea, brewed with only tea leaves. The second stage has tea brewed using leaves and fruit. The last stage is brewed using smoked tea leaves and fruit. The tea at each stage tastes distinct, with it tasting most flavourful in its final stage.

If you want to look classy but stay sober, the Jasmine Bubble is right for you. It looks like champagne, but don’t be fooled. It is a mix of jasmine tea, green tea and osmanthus. The tea is sweet, but not overpoweringly so, and delightfully bubbly.

Shaved ice & tong sui

What if you aren’t into caffeine? Good news, the dessert bar has some shaved ice desserts on its menu as well. For starters, check out the Toxic Bosom, made with strawberries and guava. It has a lovely pink hue to match to.

Surprisingly, this shaved ice dessert is rather subtle with its flavours. Instead of dousing it with sugary syrup, it seems like One Night Dessert Bar preferred the fruity flavours to speak for themselves. That decision is a good one, with both fruits coming together perfectly.

In the event you’re an old-school dessert enjoyer, the tong sui-like Hazelnut World will be up your alley. It’s warm, rich and creamy. This dessert is for folks who like their food with few frills but flavourful nonetheless.

Clucking crazy

And if you do like flavours, there’s something on the menu right for you. It’s the 8 Pieces Crazy Chicken, with eight chicken fillets with individual coatings. The garlicky Gargarlic is worth a mention, as is the mouthwatering Spicy Queen.

Worth your time?

While One Night Dessert Bar is not the cheapest hangout spot, it certainly has class as well as good food. Hence, perhaps this might be a good place to chill with your friends late at night. Plus, you can bring the doggo too, though you will have to sit outside for that.
