If you have spent a good amount of time overseas, especially overseas, you will know that Malaysia is a country that never sleeps when it comes to food. Where else can you find eateries open and sometimes, packed, in the wee hours of the morning? Well, if you are one of those night owls with a rumbling tummy, there’s this awesome BBQ buffet in KL where you can get your foodie fix at reasonable prices.

Mookata, what’s that?

Located with Wisma Trax on Jalan Chan Sow Lin, OHO Thai Mookata & Bar throws its doors open starting at 5 pm before slamming them shut at 4 am. Needless to say, this is a place to go to when you want a late-night hangout spot. There is more to this place than extraordinary operating hours, however, as you will see through a glance at the menu.

For the uninitiated, Mookata (originally mu kratha) is a Thai word which directly translates to “pan pork”. It’s a Thai version of barbecue and hot pot is a mix of both Korean barbecue and Chinese hot pot. The dish is cooked in a metal skillet that’s usually greased with pork lard. As you can guess, this place is only for folks who like farm animals which oink!

It’s quite hard to miss OHO, what with its eye-catching storefront which has a tropical beachfront property look to it, surfboards and all. As you are ushered indoors, you will likely be pleased to find the interiors to be as spacious as they are comfortable. It may be advisable to bring a big dining party, as bringing a dining party of eight and above entitles you to the VIP room, which provides you with a private dining area where you can eat, drink and be merry with your pals. Did we mention the VIP room also comes with a karaoke set? Time to break out the beer and then stretch out those vocal chords…

For the unbelievably low price of RM29.90, you can treat yourself to the Porky Heaven buffet, which lets you eat everything and anything your heart (and cholesterol) allows. It isn’t truly heaven until you have savoured up every cut of pork belly the restaurant has in store for you. Don’t forget to top up on the free refills of veggies and glass noodles available for your enjoyment. And if you are feeling peckish, you also can get unlimited refills of tantalising pork soup, so don’t feel shy about it!

Going back to the astounding array of pork flavours served at this BBQ buffet, you can indulge in about 30 of them, each different from the next. For folks who enjoy the Thai way of doing things (read: spicy), get the Thai Chilli Sauce pork which packs quite the punch even for Malaysian tastebuds. Alternatively, support local cuisine and go for the Nyonya pork. Other flavours worth mentioning are Black Pepper, Belacan, Spicy Mala and the Korean Spicy BBQ. It doesn’t matter what your tastebuds are like; there’s something for every stripe and colour of pork lover here.

As though you need an extra reason to visit OHO, the restaurant is pet-friendly, with customers more than welcome to bring their four-legged friends to eat and enjoy the restaurant with them. OHO has regular dog-themed events where you can bring your pet and treat them to a tasty treat as you dine. For example, between 20 January and 2 February, owners of huskies and French bulldogs are encouraged to drop by, with doggies in tow of course, as you will entitled to a free drink with every purchase of a drink.

Whether you love all things pork or want to give your furkid a treat of a lifetime, OHO Thai Mookata & Bar is a place to go to if you want bang for your buck.
