Bukit Bintang is the uptown part of Kuala Lumpur, where you can find luxury brand outlets and high-end restaurants for the wealthiest Malaysians. Hence, it can be hard to believe that, if you know where to look, you can find tasty food being sold here at affordable prices. This is certainly the case with Shedazz Ayam Kunyit, a nasi kunyit stall largely kept a secret by office workers in the area.
Hidden in plain sight

Getting to Shedazz itself is quite an adventure. While marked on Google Maps, it can be quite easy to miss the stairway which you need to ascend to get to Shedazz. Hence, MFT suggests that you search for the Public Bank located outside Fahrenheit 88 first. Next to the bank is a small lane open to foot traffic only. Go down the lane and turn left. As soon as you spot the signboard which reads “33 Food Court”, you will know you are in the right place.

Upstairs is the food court, which can easily go unnoticed by people unfamiliar with the area. It can get rather hot and stuffy at times as the place is not air-conditioned. This doesn’t stop the fact that the food court tends to be packed to the brim with office workers come lunch hour. Hence, if you come before the lunch crowd does, there is a strong chance you will be able to enjoy your food with a measure of comfort. Speaking of food, let’s talk all about Shedazz Ayam Kunyit, the very reason why you came here in the first place.
Affordable by KL standards
This nasi kunyit stall has a variety of dishes that you can enjoy together with a plate of white rice. Of course, what most people go for here is the ayam kunyit, grilled after being coated with a turmeric marinade. Another recommendation most customers would give is the sotong kunyit, which is cooked similarly. And just to add to the protein, throw in a telur mata. For a very generous portion of rice, ayam kunyit, sotong kunyit and telur mata, MFT was charged just RM12. A very affordable price considering the location of the stall.
Delicious food

Low prices are good and all, but how is the food itself? First things first, the ayam kunyit is the highlight of the meal. Each part of the chicken meat oozed with juice. The chicken is best enjoyed with a slathering of the stall’s spicy sambal. The sambal is refillable, by the way. The sotong kunyit is also worth a try. The squid is soft and tender that you could almost slurp it down. It also lacks the rubbery texture that squid sometimes has, so you know they took their time cooking this. And what is there to say about the telur mata? Egg goes with anything, so feel free to break open the yolk to mix with your rice for extra enjoyment.
Worth recommending?
With generous portions and an affordable price, Shedazz Ayam Kunyit is definitely worth your patronage the next time you are in the Bukit Bintang area. If you find MFT’s directions to be unclear, just ask any office worker you walk past. The nasi kunyit stall is famous among working folks here, so you will almost certainly be pointed the right way each time.
