Most restaurants tend to fear the arrival of city or municipal council officers, who normally show up at their establishments out of the blue. These officers are normally tasked with inspecting restaurants, which may end up being heavily penalised if they are found to have broken any rules. Yet, recently, a cafe went viral because the visiting MBPJ officers ended up distracted by the eatery’s main feature.

Mizuniwa Aquascape Cafe in Bandar Sri Damansara recently received a visit from a pair of MBPJ officers conducting a routine inspection. Things took a funny and quite adorable turn though. The officers, after completing their tasks, spent the rest of their visit admiring the aquariums which are the cafe’s main draws. On Instagram, the cafe posted a video of the two officers relaxing and photographing the schools of fish in their tanks. Included was the caption, “POV: when abang MBPJ came to inspect but ended up enjoying the view with our drinks.”

The cafe was founded last year by couple Charlotte Siow and Stephan Fernandez. They had left the corporate world to combine their passion for food and aquascaping into a single business idea. At Mizuniwa, customers can enjoy coffee and cakes while seated next to various aquariums filled with tetrafish and other aquatic animals. The cafe’s signature drinks include Strawberry Matcha Latte and ‘tirumisu’ flavours like Kaya Butter and Strawberry Matcha. The menu also includes hot food like Gochujang Salmon Mangkuk and Spicy Smoked Duck Lemongrass Carbonara.
Like humans, like cats?
Looking online, it seems that most reviews have praised the cafe as a great place for people to retreat and relax. In fact, the cafe has 4.8 stars on Google. There must be something therapeutic about watching swimming past blissfully. That probably was the case for those MBPJ officers too! Who knew people and cats aren’t that far apart when it comes to fish catching our attention?
