Have you ever had the sudden urge to have century eggs or petai with your coffee? Well, me neither. BUT this cafe has weird coffee flavours that will probably make you go “Uhmmm, what?”
Located in Chow Kit, Kwong Cheung Loong Kopitiam Bar is a kopitiam during the day that transforms into a moody HK-style bar at night. The kopitiam-bar serves up dishes and drinks for you while you spend time with your friends, family, and furry companions.
Some may have heard of the kopitiam-bar prior to this thanks to its previously viral gold foie gras nasi lemak. Ever since, the kopitiam-bar has not slowed down from its interesting take on its menu. The unconventional meals and beverages on the menu has grown significantly with the recent additions of its questionable latte lineup.
What does the cafe serve?

Originally, the cafe began with semi-tame drinks that left many scratching their heads but willing to try the rather interesting combinations.
Now the kopitiam-bar has become known for their weird coffee flavours that are served in unique (and questionable) ways. From orange peels to bell peppers, the unusual lattes mainly focused on how the coffee was presented.
To take things up a notch, the beverage makers at Kwong Cheung Loong created new concoctions that blended not-so-ordinary ingredients into regular lattes. Most notably, the inclusion of fermented beancurd in a latte left many shocked and horrified at the thought of it.
The weirdness does not stop there as they also have alcohol infused coffee that uses the Chinese liquor, Maotai, in the mix.

But just as things couldn’t get weirder, the creators at the cafe went a step further with the introduction of some of their most controversial drinks to date. Behold, the century egg latte, and the petai latte.
What exactly are these lattes?
1. Century Egg Latte
This latte is exactly like how it sounds. The base of the drink consists of one thing; century eggs, duh. Hand-smashed century eggs are combined with a freshly brewed cafe latte and topped with a whole century egg to create the unique latte that is both visually and flavourly mysterious.
2. Petai Latte
Similar to the century egg version of the drink, petai is at the foundation of this drink. The mixture of petai with coffee is topped with a hefty amount of whipped cream and sprinkled with green bits of presumably more petai. The overall visual appeal is an unassuming mix of coffee and green that looks suspiciously good.
Does it actually taste good?

Well, it’s an acquired taste.
Based on reviews of various people across the Internet, some say the flavour of coffee overpowers the taste of the obscure ingredients. Some have described the taste of the century egg just like jelly toppings in a cup of coffee.
But, there are a handful of people who say that the only thing they can taste is the century egg flavour and it packs an impactful punch.
The divided opinions have sparked discourse from both ends of the stick. The cafe owners fully expected the reactions from the public as they believe that, for any dish or beverage, there would be people who love, and hate it.
Would you try these odd combinations of drinks?
