What is pillow toast?

Alright, so you’re probably reading pillow toast and thinking “Woah, is this some kind of fluffy bread that’s as comfy as a nap?” Well, you’re not far off, my friend.
The concept behind this super-soft, melt-in-your-mouth goodness is inspired by the feeling you get when your head hits your pillow—cosy, comfortable, warm, and oh-so-satisfying! There’s just no other feeling like it, is there?
In Korean, pillow is referred to as 베개 (be-gae). Just like your favourite pillow, Kream Bakery aims to recreate and treat you to that same soft, comforting experience, but in the form of bread.
So, what makes their pillow toast so special? For starters, it’s made with high-quality ingredients imported directly from Korea, including the flour which gives it that perfect, airy texture.
Every day, the bakery only produces 100 loaves, retaining freshness and ensuring minimal wastage. This means you’re never met with stale, mass-produced loaves of bread. The different varieties of pillow toast are based on the owner’s very own recipes, perfected with care over time.
The Ahjumma behind Kream Bakery even studied culinary arts in Korea. So, you can bet she’s got some serious skills up her sleeve when it comes to making your dream bread. (Get it? Pillows and dreams?)
Pillow toast is not a foreign concept and is actually quite popular in Korea, where they exist in various shapes, flavours, and forms. The hype has finally made its way to our part of the world, so naturally, we had to check it out for ourselves.
Plus, the savoury versions are made with halal-certified meats, so there’s no pork or lard involved.

Our favourite was the Pillow Toast Caramel Sauce, priced at RM9. Their in-house-made caramel sauce coasts the entire loaf giving it a crunchy texture and sweetening the toast subtly. Pair each bite with a slather of their special homemade vanilla bean butter for an explosion of sweet and creamy flavours. This got a solid 10/10 from us and we could instantly see why it is one of the bestsellers at Kream Bakery.
Their Strawberry Fresh Cream Toast is only RM5 and reminded me of a Hokkaido cream bun I used to love when I was younger. We found the whipped cream and strawberry compote filling super fresh, light, and refreshing, despite being cream-based. They also have an Original Pillow Toast, though plain and simple, it does not lack taste.
If you prefer more savoury options, fret not, they have those too. They have a few different options for you to choose from, but we opted for the Bulgogi Pillow Sandwich and the Egg Mayo Pillow Sandwich, both priced at RM9. We nearly skipped out on these, but we’re really glad we didn’t because these were hearty and satisfying.
Kream Bakery goes beyond the breads, serving a selection of cookies, desserts, and beverages. We couldn’t resist trying their jiggly pudding in the Korean melon flavour, which is super hard to come by. Safe to say, it was love at first bite. The texture was perfectly smooth and wobbly, with a refreshing melon sweetness that had us hooked.
P.S. If you spend more than RM20 you’ll get an RM5 voucher for their photo booth upstairs.
