Kay's Steakhouse

As much as we Malaysians love gorging on local delicacies, every once in a while, we do feel like indulging ourselves in something more luxurious. Western food often fits that bill, with steaks and lobsters being a delight reserved for special occasions. For the discerning foodie, eateries offering quality, halal delicacies and a comfortable dining environment can be hard to find. Look no further than Kay’s Steak & Lobster.

Halal and Muslim-owned

Kay's Steakhouse

Established in 2014, this Malaysian restaurant chain is both halal-certified and Muslim-owned. It currently has four outlets located within the Klang Valley. The first three outlets are in Subang Jaya, Ampang and Putrajaya. Given the thousands of positive reviews each has received, this number is bound to rise soon. The newest outlet is in Elmina Shah Alam, and it is the first premium halal steakhouse in the area! In addition to top-notch service with waiters laying out napkins for you, the steakhouse has classy decor with wooden panelling and dining areas with glass partitions. But what’s exactly so special at Kay’s? Well, MFT is here to tell you all about it.

Juicy steaks

Kay's Steakhouse

Kay’s is well-known for its juicy steaks and fresh lobsters. This is the place you would visit when celebrating a truly special occasion. The steaks here are top-sellers, mostly made using beef from Australia. Kay’s also has steak cuts of Japanese wagyu and Korean hanwoo. What’s hanwoo beef? Hanwoo is a rare, pricey meat which tastes thicker and feels less fatty than wagyu. It is also rich in oleic acid, which keeps your heart and skin healthy.

Rare hanwoo beef

Kay’s is among the first places in Malaysia to offer halal hanwoo beef as an option for customers. We’ve got to say, you have to try this yourself to appreciate it. Even as the steak is brought out from the kitchen, you can pick up the aroma all the way from your table. Of course, you will want to do more than just sniff at it. Oozing with juice, the beef has a firm but tender texture. It is meaty, savoury and rich all at the same time. It is also unbelievably chewy without being rubbery. Needless to say, this steak is a God-sent to any meat lover out there.

Fresh US lobster

Kay's Steakhouse

Aside from steak, Kay’s is also famous for its live lobster. Kay’s regularly imports these quality lobsters from the US, so you can enjoy lobster flesh fresh and sweet. The lobsters here are also very generous in terms of portions, with plenty of meat to share around. With a mix of butter and garlic, the flavours of the lobster are on full blast the moment you stick that fork into your mouth. So, make sure you crack open every nook and cranny of this lobster to not miss any morsels of this precious flesh.

Gorgeous Beef Wellington

Kay's Steakhouse

Ever wanted to try Beef Wellington but don’t have the money to hire Gordon Ramsay? Kay’s has a perfectly viable take on the British meat dish, which you must try when you have the chance. It is a dish worth whipping out your phone for; it’s just that gorgeous to look at! Surrounding the juicy heart of beef tenderloin is a baked exterior of golden, baked puff pastry. Cut into the wellington with a knife and you will find that while the tenderloin is slightly seared on the outside, the inside is pure meat juice. And the pastry is not to be missed, with its buttery and flaky texture and a salty, crispy crust. Oh, and did we mention this is Malaysia’s first halal-certified Beef Wellington?

Worth your money?

With all these irresistible dishes, surely Kay’s gets two thumbs up from MFT? Considering that Kay’s offers a great experience overall, with service, food and atmosphere all being superb, the answer is a resounding yes! So, the next time you have something special worth celebrating, consider treating yourself to a good time at Kay’s.
