This school-themed restaurant at SS15 gives me SPM PTSD—but at RM7.90, it’s worth it

As students in Malaysia prepare for their SPM exams, they’re flooded with memories of late-night study marathons, group cramming, and last-minute panic.

But at Hotzilla SS15, a school-themed restaurant, you can relive those school days without hitting the books. Even better, they offer comforting, cheap meals—surpassing the school canteen, of course.

Revisiting school days

Walking into this quirky eatery is like stepping back into the classrooms of yesteryear. The walls are decorated with chalkboards scribbled with motivational quotes and playful doodles, while the furniture mimics vintage school desks and chairs.

All the waitstaff are dressed in school uniforms, which I found really cool. The menu is sports a buku latihan design, and the order form resembles an SPM exam paper! I never thought jotting down an order would be such a nerve-wracking experience. Thankfully, it’s not graded. Phew!

Broke meals-coded

This restaurant specialises in hotplate dishes, and they have a variety of options. I was tempted by their Bila Lah Nak Dapat Gaji (RM7.90), a sizzling dish that features chilli oil dry noodles, topped with an egg and fried fucuk.

One bite, and I was hooked. It’s so flavourful and fulfilling. Definitely the perfect dish to enjoy while counting down to payday.

Their best-seller, The Moo Moo (RM16.90) lives up to the hype. It has five different sauces to choose from. I went with curry rendang, and let me tell you, it is the bomb! The nasi minyak is so fragrant and goes perfectly with the juicy and tender grilled beef slices.

If you want full marks, try the A+ Pairings on their menu, the Crunchy Seaweed (RM3.90), and Sup Panas Panas (RM6.90). Their seaweed soup is just so comforting!

A trip down memory lane

school-themed restaurant

This school-themed restaurant is not your average canteen. Apart from their nostalgic decor and playful concept, I love everything about the food.

There’s even a rotan sitting by the counter to remind you of those old-school disciplinary days. Surely you’ve kena a few whacks in school, traumatic indeed. Don’t worry, you’re safe from the rotan here, it’s just delicious and comforting food to bring back other fond school memories.

So, how many As did you get for your SPM?
