Fuss-free soup and dumplings

While most of us are snoozing away in the wee hours of the morning, owner Lin Dan wakes up bright and early to receive her daily packages of fresh meat and to check on her chicken soup that’s boiled, or rather, stewed, for hours throughout the night.

ABC soup that’s chock-filled with carrots, for their natural sweetness, and potatoes, for that thick, starchy quality it lends to the broth. A broth that’s been stewing for so long, it has a slight stickiness on the lips.

The very same broth that’s served with the classic soup dumplings on Lin Dan’s fuss-free and humble menu. For just RM9, you’ll get to enjoy a steaming, comforting bowl of soup dumplings, and for the same price, you can opt to have them fried too!

The dumplings themselves are plump and pleasant, the filling plentiful, and the wrapper silky smooth and not too thick so as to not overpower the meaty filling inside.

Dumplings come in two forms here, Leek and Pork, or Sage Pork with carrots and yam beans. For that tantalising crunchy texture, combined with the aroma of herbs and savoury pork, we recommend the Sage Pork dumplings for sure.

The sides

Noodles at Danji Pudu are a simple, wholesome affair. When you order them dry, they come tossed in soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and sesame oil. They’re bouncy, chewy, and fragrant. They can be served with dumplings, soup or fried, for just RM10.

Alternatively, for the less dumpling-enthused folk, the dumpling noodles also come with dishes like braised pork ribs, pork intestines, and braised chicken feet. For us, we prefer the pork intestines. Tender, homey, and bursting with flavour.

Self-service

Ordering and dining at Danji Pudu is a straightforward process. Things here are mostly self-service, due to the small nature of the shop and the fact that it’s only got two people running it.

Simply tick off your choice of food at the counter, and tear off the little sheet of numbered paper at the bottom, this is your order number. Then, pass the main order sheet to Lin Dan’s little daughter.

Once ready, Lin Dan will call out your order number. Simply collect, pay, and enjoy. Once you’re done though, be sure to clear your table for the next wave of hungry diners.

The location

It can definitely be a bit of a hunt to find this elusive locale. But don’t worry. We did it so you don’t have to. In order to find Lin Dan’s humble corner shop, simply look for UOB Bank and D’Majestic Hotel, smack opposite these two buildings, and right underneath an overpass, sits Danji Pudu.
