Puchong has a reputation for being a food haven with serious traffic congestion issues. So, what if you are a foodie who wants to explore but not get stuck in a jam? Well, head on over to Haus 7 Cafe, one of Puchong’s more unusual foodie finds.
Far from the town centre

Why is it unusual? For one, it’s located far from the town centre, where many of the good food spots are located. In fact, you can only find it by travelling through the narrow lanes of Kampung Batu 14, on the outskirts of town.
The village is an old one and has been here since 1915. Finding a modern cafe here is thus a pleasant surprise for anyone passing through. In truth, the location is not coincidental at all, but it is all according to plan.
A quiet part of Puchong

You see, Haus 7 Cafe’s owner, Alicia, is herself a veteran restaurateur who came across a then-abandoned house in the village. Despite its condition, she found the place charming. Thus, she restored the house to its former glory and set up a cafe within its freshly-painted walls.
Compared to the urban sprawl of Puchong, this cafe’s location is amazingly peaceful and quiet. No honking motorists or endless fumes of exhaust. Just a warm breeze, birds chirping, and grass swaying outside.
It might be tempting to just sit down and enjoy the out-of-town vibes. It is even better to support this little piece of rural heaven by taking a look at its menu. After all, what could make life better than a delicious meal?
Chicken chops

The menu has a selection of brunch options, with sandwiches, pastas, waffles and rice options available. Also on the menu are the chicken chops, which come in grilled or Hainanese variants.
Of the two, the Hainanese chicken chop is what sets most tongues wagging. For one, the chicken is well seasoned with a light coating of bread, which is perfectly crunchy once fried. The generous portions of potato wedges and coleslaw are also a nice touch.
That said, the grilled chicken chop is nothing to sneeze at either. It has a nice sear to it and the chicken chop itself is of a generous portion. The spotlight has to be on the black pepper sauce, though, which is not too watery and instead has a great texture and a prominent umami flavour.
Nasi lemak

On weekends, the cafe serves a special nasi lemak with rendang. The sambal apparently is well-made, packing a fiery punch that goes well with the coconut rice. Like the chops, portions are also generous, giving the meal another star in its favour.
Coffee and other brews

As a cafe, Haus 7 has several beverages and drinks worth checking out as well. These include everything from coffees and teas to mocktails and juices. In fact, the cafe has its own packed coffee which you can bring home to brew yourself.
Worth your time?
With its unique setting and relaxing atmosphere, a visit to Haus 7 Cafe will do any foodie a good service. It is nice to dine and unwind in a place that seems faraway from life’s troubles, without needing to travel far and wide.
