This Western cafe in Happy Mansion may not be that active on socmed, but there’s always a queue

Nestled in the popular square of Happy Mansion, Section 17, this charming western-fusion cafe might not be all over social media, but it’s definitely on the radar of PJ foodies like myself. Having visited multiple times with both friends and family, Good Blue Men has quickly become one of my fail-safe places for a delicious meal that always hits the spot.

The food here is the real secret behind its steady stream of eager diners, despite its relatively low online profile.

Having tried nearly everything on the menu, here’s my honest review of what this humble cafe has in store for its patrons.

Standing out among the competition

Happy Mansion has become a well-known spot for foodies. Originally built in the 70s as a neighbourhood of low-cost flats, it has evolved into a buzzing culinary hub featuring an array of eateries and trendy cafes.

Over the years, new cafes and restaurants have surfaced and been replaced, which means there’s always something new to explore here. It is within these unassuming buildings that Good Blue Men is located, alongside other soulful dining spots.

Good Blue Men may be a humble spot, but its charm lies in its warm atmosphere and good food. It has been around since 2017 and features a typical cafe setting—brightly lit and comfortable, though not particularly remarkable in terms of decor.

Due to its compact space, seating is limited. The cafe tends to get quite crowded and noisy, making it less than ideal for intimate conversations or catch-up sessions.

You can expect a queue during peak hours, so it’s wise to reserve a table or call ahead to check the wait time. If you prefer a quieter experience, visiting in the late afternoon is your best bet.

Why is it called Good Blue Men? No one really knows.

Anything but blue eats at this cafe

Don’t you just hate when the menus have tempting pictures? It makes it a struggle to decide what to eat because everything looks so good! Trust me when I say that the extensive menu here will have you craving everything

At Good Blue Men, you can indulge in typical cafe fare, but with a delightful and comforting twist that sets it apart from other cafes.

From local-infused pasta and all-day breakfast options to mouthwatering sandwiches, hearty meat-based main dishes, and so much more.

One of the best things about this place is that, despite the generous portions, the pricing remains refreshingly affordable compared to most cafes nowadays. You can enjoy a satisfying Western fusion meal with a drink under RM30, making it a winning option for anyone looking to indulge without guilt.

This balance of quality and affordability is another reason diners keep coming back for more.

Despite its relatively quiet online presence, the cafe has amassed over 1,200 Google Reviews and still boasts a solid 4.3-star rating at the time of writing. This speaks volumes about the food and experience it offers, and spotlights a customer base that values the cafe’s offerings over flashy marketing.

It seems that once people discover this corner lot, they can’t help but come back for more. This underscores the idea that even in a highly digitalised world, good food often speaks louder than social media buzz.

MFT’s picks

Out of everything I’ve eaten at this cafe, here are some of my favourites that I would recommend as must-tries.

Chicken Chop on Mash: This is their take on a grilled chicken chop and it is a classic that I order time and time again. I usually opt for the mushroom sauce instead of the black pepper, each bite is savoury and comforting. The chicken is tender; the mash, creamy; and the sauce, umami.

Chicken Fingers: These in-house-made chicken fingers will blow your mind. Coated in a light batter and fried to perfection, these are too easy to devour. I don’t know what they put in the creamy sauce it’s served with, but it is addictive.

Creamy Seafood Tom Yum Pasta: This was hard to narrow down as I enjoy a number of their pastas. This particular one has the perfect amount of creaminess that won’t leave you feeling jelak, with a subtle tom yum flavour that I enjoy. Peppery with a hint of spice, if you’re in the mood for carbs, I would go for this one.

The Sarawak Laksa Pasta, Creamy Pesto, Fish & Chips, and the Kam Heong Sandwich are also really yummy dishes.
