Croissants: Flakey, buttery goodness. Crispy with the perfect satisfying mouthfeel as you sink your teeth into a delectable French pastry. Is there even any way to improve on the beloved baked good? Can it even be done? Well, we’ve found the FIRST-ever sushi croissants in Malaysia!
Produced by Chizu, a Japanese concept cafe famous for its unique cheese foam drinks and croissants, these sushi croissants are the first of their kind!
Are they any good?

We’ll cut straight to the chase. These are the best sushi croissants we’ve ever had! Sure, they might be the only sushi croissants we’ve ever had, but that’s beside the point. That aforementioned crispy, flakey croissant base paired with a whole world of sushi toppings, they’re a seriously unique bite to eat!
And we do mean bite. Sushi is meant to be bite-sized, after all, and these sushi croissants reflect that perfectly. Super poppable, super convenient. They even hold up their structural integrity even better than your typical bite-sized sushi!
And their petite and adorable size means that you have more space to try out all the different variations! 15 of them, in fact! We know that you guys can be an indecisive lot, so let us tell you about the top 3 flavours that we loved!
Stars of the show

First up, the Unagi Tamago Sushi Croissant. The concept of sweet’n salty really hits here. We loved this for its tender textures that just fill your mouth with that authentic Japanese flavour. Paired with the crispiness of the croissant, it’s a very pleasant mouthful.
Our second pick is the Sambal Sushi Croissant; savoury, spicy, and encased in a gorgeous layer of thin, salty seaweed. We never could have imagined sambal in sushi, much less a sushi croissant, but were we wow-ed by this addition to the sushi croissant roster?
And lastly, but certainly not least, would be the Ebi Mentai Sushi Croissant! Ebi meaning prawn, this shrimpy bite, paired with the creamy and umami mentaiko, was a seafood-y blast to flavour town!
Drinks to wash it down

You’d typically want something unique to pair with the bold sushi flavours. Something… nutty. Black sesame perhaps? Well, completely coincidentally, Chizu also has a brand-new drink series! The Black Latte!
Aside from the colour, the Black Latte also has a strong, nutty aftertaste to it due to the black sesame used. Creamy coffee paired with the aromatic fragrance of black sesame? We literally could not ask for more. And even better, you can have it topped with Chizu’s iconic cheese foam and turn it into a Cheese Black Latte!
It sounds strange for sure, but when the cheese foam is made from high-quality, premium milk from the Oceania region, it ensures that the cheese foam doesn’t have that overly strong dairy smell, it’s a clear and slightly salty experience with a velvety mouthfeel!
The process for making the cheese foam, in fact, is a secret recipe from Japan!
Other delights

Chizu also offers a wide variety of pastries and other delights. As aforementioned, they’re famous for their cheese foam drinks and croissants. But they’ve got other offerings too! We highly recommend the bombolonis (doughnuts rolled in sugar and stuffed with pastry cream) here, especially the Raspberry Bomboloni. Sweet, fruity, and topped with gorgeous raspberry chocolate shavings. The Earl Grey Bomboloni is also a super aromatic choice. If you’re a tea lover, this is definitely the dessert pastry for you.
For something savoury, give their Japanese Cheese Croissant a try, with a cheese pastry cream that’s made with cheesy goodness directly imported from Japan! The silkiness of the cream paired with the flakiness and buttery flavour of the croissant will be sure to transport you to flavour bliss!
It’s a good thing that Chizu has so many pastries to choose from, as they have an incredible ‘value for money’ promo ongoing! If you buy 5 of their pastries or croissants, you will get 1 for free! You can quite literally, buy 5 and get 1 for FREE!
