Sakura blossom trees or also known as tecoma trees are synonymous with Japan. Their blooms which range from reds to pinks and whites are a sight to behold. Can’t afford to fly to Japan? Feel Japanese vibes at these 9 places in Malaysia where you can see sakura trees bloom!
9 Spots to Catch Sakura Malaysia
1. Sungai Petani & Alor Setar, Kedah

Usually the cherry blossom season in Kedah starts around March when the weather is hot and there’s little rain in the evening. Apparently, the urban landscape in Kedah, especially in Alor Setar and the surrounding area, changes its face when the tecoma tree begins to flower.
This situation is exactly like the cherry blossom season in Japan. With the arrival of Kedah’s cherry blossom season, many netizens start uploading pictures of themselves wishing they were abroad on social media.
Not only the residents around Kedah, those from as far away as Kangar, Perlis and even from Kuala Lumpur also come here to see the sakura Malaysia for themselves and upload their OOTD photos.
This phenomenon happens once a year, starting from March to early April. This is because the tecoma flower is not able to last long and grows fully depending on the hot temperature of the dry season, if the rainy season returns it will fall.
2. Various places in Penang Island

Like the cherry blossom season in Japan, some areas in the state change their face after being ‘decorated’ with the beauty of pink, purple and white tecoma flowers that bloom.
The Penang City Council (MBPP) took the initiative to plant about 3,047 Tabebuia spp or better known as tecoma trees in several areas on the island such as Tanjung Tokong, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Batu Ferringhi, Bayan Lepas and Balik Pulau.
