The steady queue outside is proof their food is the real deal, serving up hearty Nyonya dishes and Asian favorites that keep people coming back

TUCKED along the heritage-rich streets of Melaka’s Kampung Pantai, a warm, family-run restaurant has been quietly winning over taste buds for 15 years. What began as a small venture catering mostly to tourists has now evolved into a must-visit destination for food lovers seeking a harmonious variety of flavours from across Asia.
The mastermind behind it all is Raymond, a proud Baba (Peranakan Chinese-Malay), whose wife, a talented Chindian cook and artist, adds her own touch to both the kitchen and the walls, painting many of the artworks that bring the space to life.
“When we started, it was just us cooking for the friends and family. Soon after, tourist took over. About 70% of our customers were visitors from overseas,” Raymond recalls. “In fact, many Melaka folks would only drop by when they were bringing their foreign friends. Now, with social media and influencers, it’s much easier for people to discover us.”

Despite its Peranakan influence, the restaurant’s menu has always been broader, featuring a comforting mix of Asian food. “We didn’t want to limit ourselves to just Peranakan food,” Raymond says. “Our menu has been the same since the beginning, no matter when people come back, they can still order what they loved before.”
Family Recipes, Big Flavours
One standout is their Nasi Dulang, a generous platter that comes with either chicken or beef rendang. Four varieties of rice are served alongside sambal, half a boiled egg, sliced cucumbers, pineapple, rendang or Nyonya chap chai and tangy pickles. It’s a dish that feels celebratory yet comforting, perfect for sharing.
Their Mee Siam is another favourite, with rice noodles fried in a fragrant chilli paste, tossed with prawns, tofu, bean sprouts and chives, then topped with fine strips of omelette. Then there’s the Pie Tee, those delicate, crispy top-hat shells stuffed with cooked turnips, carrots, beans and diced shrimp, served with just the right kick of chilli sauce.
Seafood lovers aren’t left out either. The seafood fish curry here is fresh and aromatic, free from any overpowering ‘fishy’ taste. The prawns are large, juicy and perfectly cooked. “We always make sure the seafood is fresh and that’s non-negotiable,” Raymond explains. For something light yet bold, the Rojak Buah hits all the right notes, with fresh fruit dressed in a rich prawn paste sauce, sprinkled with crushed peanuts and sesame seeds.

Sweet Endings
Desserts here have their own personality. The Pandan Salted Egg Custard Layer Cake is unlike anything you’ve likely tried before. It is a pandan sponge layered with a silky, slightly savoury salted egg custard that somehow works beautifully together. It’s sweet and creamy.
And of course, no Melaka meal would be complete without Cendol. Here, the icy treat topped with coconut milk, palm sugar and green pandan jelly is the perfect cooling finale, especially after a spice-packed feast.

Place Built on Love
Spend just a few minutes chatting with Raymond and it becomes clear that the heart of this place is the family behind it. His affection for his wife is evident in the way he talks about her. “She’s multitalented, she cooks, she paints… everything you see here has her touch,” he says proudly.
The restaurant began as an extension of their love for cooking for friends and family. “We do what we want to do here,” Raymond says simply. “No big plans to expand. We just want to keep this as a unique destination which is one of a kind.”

It’s a philosophy that resonates in the laid-back pace of the place. There’s no rush, no corporate formula but just a warm, welcoming space where good food and good company are the main priorities.
For spice lovers, this restaurant is nothing short of paradise. But if you can’t handle the heat, here’s is a tip: “Just dip lightly. That way, you still get the flavour without drowning yourself in water.”
