If you’re a fan of Korean cuisine and looking for something fresh and exciting, then Dubu Dubu Restaurant in Desa Sri Hartamas is the place to be. Nestled in an upstairs shop lot, this new spot is a game-changer in the Korean food scene, offering a unique twist on traditional dishes with a tofu-centric menu. Run by Mr. Kim, the owner of the beloved Buldojang restaurant just downstairs, Dubu Dubu brings a special touch that you won’t find in your usual Korean joint.

Mr. Kim is a seasoned but humble entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in the F&B industry. I think it’s safe to say that he knows a thing or two about what people want to eat! His first venture, Buldojang, has become a go-to destination for jjajangmyeon and jjamppong lovers in the area, with over 900 reviews and a solid 4.3-star rating. His new venture though is all about something different—tofu.
Dubu Dubu, I’d say, is Mr. Kim’s love letter to a healthier, lighter version of Korean food. As a Korean, he knows the traditional flavours well, but after living in Malaysia, he noticed that many Korean dishes here were either too oily, fried, or spicy for his liking. Enter his grandmother’s secret tofu recipe, a cherished dish passed down through generations that takes a whole 10 hours to make. Mr. Kim decided it was time to share this gem with the world, opening a unique restaurant that specialises in handcrafted tofu and tofu-based Korean dishes.
A fresh take on Korean food

What sets Dubu Dubu apart from your average Korean restaurant? The answer lies in the tofu. Duh!
Not just any tofu, mind you, but handmade, fresh tofu made daily using a slow, loving process lovingly passed down from Mr. Kim’s grandmother. Every dish on the menu features tofu in some form—whether it’s soft tofu stews, stir-fried tofu, or dishes like their signature Sotbap Jeong Sik, where tofu plays a starring role alongside beef bulgogi or grilled fish.
For those who want to eat healthier without compromising on flavour, this restaurant offers a refreshing alternative to the heavy, often greasy Korean fare we’re used to. It’s a little lighter, yet comforting and full of heart, just like a home-cooked meal.
Who doesn’t love a cosy ambiance?

The vibe at Dubu Dubu is warm, casual, and perfect for families or a get-together with friends. The interior feels just like the Korean restaurants you’d find in Korea, but with a more modern and refined touch. Yet, the whole atmosphere is inviting and relaxed. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in and enjoy a wholesome meal while chatting and catching up with loved ones.
If you’re looking to introduce your parents or older relatives to Korean food, Dubu Dubu is a great choice. The meals are simple but wholesome, with a focus on flavours that are easy on the stomach. And because the tofu is so fresh and handmade, it’s the perfect bridge between traditional Korean flavours and lighter, more approachable dishes.
Tofu-centric dishes you can’t miss

Of course, the star of the show here is the tofu, and the reviews and social media buzz are all about how fresh, soft, and delicious it is. If you’re wondering where to start, here are some recommendations.
A must-try is their signature Sotbap Jeong Sik (RM49). This dish is a traditional Korean rice meal served in a hot stone pot. Sotbap refers to rice cooked directly in a heavy stone or metal pot, which allows the rice to soak up all the flavours from the ingredients layered on top. At Dubu Dubu, they do things a little differently, but the result is just as delicious. This hearty dish comes with your choice of beef bulgogi or grilled fish, plus six non-refillable side dishes, also known as banchan, and your pick of black or brown rice. It’s a well-rounded, filling meal that will leave you completely satisfied. According to reviews, the homemade tofu adds a unique, fresh flavor that truly elevates the entire experience.

If you’re craving something hearty and warm, the Haemul Sundubu Jjigae (RM32) or the Sundubu Jjamppong (RM30) are great options. Especially perfect for those rainy days when you need something piping hot and comforting.
Now, if you’ve caught the recent Korean reality show Culinary Class Wars, you’ll know exactly what I mean when I mention the iconic Mala Shrimp Dim Sum. Well, Mr. Kim has something just as exciting in store—his own take on the dish! His Mara Cream Saewoo Ball (RM23) closely resembles the OG version, offering us a taste of this innovative dish that definitely piqued my interest when I watched the show. I’m itching to try it!
Take the tofu home with you

One of the best parts about Dubu Dubu is that you can take a piece of the experience home with you. Mr. Kim sells his handmade tofu at the counter, so you can try your hand at making tofu-inspired dishes in your own kitchen. If you’re a tofu lover, or just a fan of fresh, wholesome ingredients, this is perfect for you.
Whether you’re a tofu aficionado or just someone who enjoys exploring new takes on classic Korean dishes, Dubu Dubu is definitely worth checking out. Mr. Kim’s passion for authentic Korean food, combined with his commitment to healthier, fresher ingredients, has created a restaurant that stands out in Mont Kiara. So, gather your family and friends and treat yourself to a delicious tofu-filled feast.
If you end up loving Dubu Dubu Restaurant, don’t forget to swing by Buldojang downstairs for what’s supposedly some of the best jjajangmyeon in the area. It’s a double treat for your taste buds.
