It may be packed with calories and a dietitian’s worst nightmare, but char kway teow is just so irresistible! Why else would it be found in almost every corner of Malaysia? Mostly sold from hawker stalls, this is one Malaysian street food that is going nowhere.

Many CKT fans claim to know the best places to get the good stuff. In truth, there is no one best place, but several. In this listicle, we will be listing a total of eight CKT places worth checking out in the Klang Valley. Want a Penang listicle? Stay tuned!

No, the name of this CKT stall is not a reference to ABBA. It does however refer to the fact that the hawker manning the stall here has the moves like Jagger. You see, the uncle here is an actual dancer who participated and won an international dancing competition!

In between doing the tango and the foxtrot though, this stall has pretty superb CKT all things considered. The ingredients used are at the right amounts, resulting in CKT with enough cockles, bean sprouts and lard. Also, duck egg is available here!

Address: 2, Jalan 21/11b, Sea Park, 46300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

You know that a CKT stall is good when it has more than 4 stars on Google Reviews. That’s not forgetting the 300 reviews in total! What makes this stall in Klang stand out is the fact that the uncle has been doing this for over 50 years now.

Needless to say, his noodles are nothing short of famous by now. Locals and out-of-towners alike often drop by to get their share of greasy noodles from this veteran. And if the smoky CKT is not filling enough, just top it off with an extra fried egg.

Address: 3, Lintang Gangsa, Taman Melawis, 41100 Klang, Selangor

By now, Bangsar has a well-deserved reputation for being a foodie haven. There’s more than just upper-class establishments here, though. If you know where to look, you can also get tasty stuff which won’t burn a hole in your pocket.

One such place to go looking has to be this CKT stall located within Nam Chuan Coffee Shop. Not only are the prices here reasonable for Bangsar standards, but the portions are also worth the money. With all the essential ingredients included in this CKT, you’ll have no complaints.

Address: 28, Lrg Ara Kiri 2, Bangsar, 59100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur

Are cooking skills genetic? While it seems unlikely, this CKT stall may prove otherwise. You see, the titular Frankie running this stall has an uncle in Penang who is also a famous CKT hawker. Does Ah Leng Char Kway Teow ring a bell to anyone?

Anyway, relative or not, Frankie runs his stall located in Damansara Perdana’s Restoran 8888. If you like spicy CKT, Frankie is the guy to talk to. With a dash of spice, lap cheong, bean sprouts and cockles, you will be left stuffed in no time at all.

It really is true that we take our hawker uncles and aunties for granted. We only notice how much we miss them once they are gone. This is the case for the late “Aunty Gemuk”, whose name lives on through the CKT stall she once ran.

This place is known for its Penang-style noodles, which have earned the praise of actual Penangites. The best part? This is a rare pork-free CKT which people of all races can eat. Aunty’s legacy still lives on here, even after her passing in 2018.

Speaking of pork-free CKT, there’s this place in PJ which draws legions of fans with its fare. Lau Wan Kuetiau Goreng is living evidence that you don’t need pork lard to ensure the good taste of a CKT. All you need is a wok, some heat and lots of love.

It should be noted that Lau Wan’s take on the dish is nothing like what you would find in Penang. Here, the CKT is on the wetter side, with the prawns left unshelled and served with chillies bathing in soy sauce. Also, be sure to get the fried tofu and cockles too!

Address: Selera Wawasan, 13, Jln. SS 3/33, Taman Universiti, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

It is one thing to have pork-free CKT, it is another to have meat-free CKT. Yet, this vegetarian CKT stall in Bukit Bintang has set tongues wagging in the past. It will likely do so again in the future as more people discover it.

Rather interestingly, the hawker running the stall, Vijayan Narayan, has been working here at Blue Boy Mansion since he was 15. Other than that, he speaks fluent Cantonese! As for his CKT, his blend of chilli paste and soy sauce is his secret weapon.

  1. Robert’s Char Kuey Teow

You know a hawker stall is going to be serving you something good if it has lasted for over two decades. Robert’s CKT fulfils that criteria and does indeed deliver nothing short of good CKT. Since 1989, Uncle Robert has been delivering on Penang-style CKT to PJ folks.

The best part about Uncle Robert is that he is happy to customise your order based on your preferences. Want more lap cheong? You got it. Want more taugeh? You also got it. Whatever you change, your CKT is still going to be a scrumptious meal to savour.

Address: 1082, Jalan 17/29, Seksyen 17, 46400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
