Popular bomboloni, HSP fries & coffee all in one spot. Are the owners trying to attract Gen Zs?

In August last year, Big Boss HSP opened a new outlet in TTDI and it quickly became a residential hotspot but with an unexpected twist. Known for their signature Hot Snack Pack (HSP) fries, Big Boss HSP took things to the next level by teaming up with two foodie favourites: Sugar and I and Koppiku. The result? A multi-hyphenated food heaven. Here, you can indulge in everything from loaded fries and shawarmas to oozing bombolonis and killer cups of coffee all under one roof.

Here’s the burning question though: is this the ultimate Gen Z magnet? With fast food, bombolonis, and expertly brewed local coffee, it’s clear the owners are making all the right moves and tapping into what today’s food scene craves. A mix of variety, visual appeal, and flavours that cater to the new wave of foodies. Because let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a spot where you can enjoy a little bit of everything?

With its casual atmosphere and variety, this spot seems tailor-made for the young and the young-at-heart. So, next time you’re in TTDI, swing by and experience what might just be the most Gen Z-friendly food spot in town.

A taste of Australia

Big Boss HSP’s journey to fame began down under in Australia, where the founders fell in love with not only Australian coffee but the HSP (Hot Snack Pack) too.

The HSP is a late-night, convenient favourite made from fries, doner kebab meat (chicken, beef, or lamb), and a smothering of sauces—equal parts hearty and sinful. It’s saucy and some would argue, the ultimate Australian comfort food. Perfect for those post-party munchies or to fuel you after a long day at work. The idea was simple but powerful: a quick, filling snack that hits all the right spots.

Fast forward to 2024, and Big Boss HSP is proudly serving up hundreds of thousands of their HSP fries and shawarmas. Fun fact: in 2024 alone, they sold a whopping 99,700 HSP fries and 78,000 shawarmas. Now, with Sugar and I and Koppiku in tow, they’re taking things to the next level by creating the ultimate hangout for food lovers in TTDI.

Is this new combo catering to the elusive Gen Z crowd?

With three local brands all coming together in one vibrant spot, Big Boss HSP’s new outlet in TTDI isn’t just serving up food—it’s serving up a vibe.

The concept is all about the lepak culture. This spot offers a laid-back hangout for friends to gather, enjoy some seriously good food, and just chill. The trio of brands described their new hub as “synergistic”, working together to create a sense of community. Think of it as a one-stop food destination.

Forget traditional chairs and tables. Here, you’ll find steps and ledges perfect for lounging while you devour some of their offerings. Whether you’re grabbing a bite after a late night or just hanging out with friends, this spot has you covered. No matter the time or occasion.

With its casual, no-fuss atmosphere, late hours (open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays), and a stall layout offering a variety of options, Big Boss HSP in TTDI is quickly becoming the go-to hangout for Gen Z. Imagine enjoying a loaded plate of fries, indulging in a soft bomboloni, and sipping on expertly brewed coffee all in one place. Now that’s what we call the lepak dream come true.

MFT’s review

We kicked off our visit by diving straight into Big Boss HSP’s signature offerings. Let me tell you, we weren’t disappointed. First up was the Hot Snack Pack Extra Large (Chicken, RM52.90). The portion was massive and loaded with generous servings of tender, juicy chicken. They’ve really mastered the art of loaded fries—saucy, savoury, and absolutely satisfying. The Chicken Shawarma (RM13.90) was a standout too. Juicy and bursting with flavour, it was the perfect balance of smoky and tangy. It also had a delightful kick from the sauces.

As a die-hard fan of Sugar and I’s bombolonis, I can confidently say that if you have a sweet tooth and haven’t tried them yet, you’re seriously missing out. We tried their bestsellers and our favourite was the Bueno bomboloni, packed to the brim with a nutty, velvety filling that’s perfect for satisfying any sweet cravings. Some of the flavours can get a bit rich though, so they’re best enjoyed when shared with friends.

What’s a late-night hangout without coffee? That’s where Koppiku truly shines. Known for its rich, aromatic Arabica brews, Koppiku adds the perfect jolt to your Big Boss HSP experience. We opted for their signature Koppiku Latte which was creamy and definitely recharged our social battery. Koppiku’s coffee completes this trifecta of local goodness. Not only was it a big hit with us, but it seemed like the TTDI crowd couldn’t get enough of it either.
