If there’s one thing I love about living in Shah Alam, it’s how green and spacious the city is. For someone like me who’s always searching for that balance between good food and an active lifestyle, the recreational spots here are a real lifesaver. Shah Alam truly spoils us with park options.
So, if you’re planning to lace up your sneakers or just want to berhealing while exploring nature, here are five of the best parks and recreational spots in Shah Alam that I’ve tried, and you should too.

1. Taman Tasik Shah Alam (West)
As a Shah Alam girlie, I’d say no park list is complete without Taman Tasik Shah Alam. It’s basically our version of Central Park, stretching across Seksyen 14 with wide jogging paths and shady trees that make your walk extra breezy.
This park is famous for its view of the iconic Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque, the big blue dome that always sneaks into everyone’s Instagram shots. What I love most is the variety of activities you’ll see here. On weekends, families spread picnic mats, kids run around, cyclists zip by, and uncles and aunties do tai chi by the lake. Sometimes you’ll even stumble upon fun runs or food fairs.

2. Taman Rekreasi Raja Lumu
If you’re looking for something a bit more chill, Taman Rekreasi Raja Lumu is that underrated cousin of Tasik Shah Alam. It’s not as crowded, and that’s exactly why I like it.
The park is popular among joggers who prefer a quieter route with plenty of space for stretching or light workouts. What makes this spot special is its accessibility. It’s right in the city centre, yet tucked away from the hustle. Sometimes I come here after dinner for a night walk since the paths are well lit, and the 24-hour access means you don’t have to rush before closing time.

3. Taman Botani Negara
This one’s for the adventurous. Taman Botani Negara (formerly Bukit Cahaya) is basically Shah Alam’s answer to a mini eco-tourism hub. It’s 817 hectares of lush greenery with cycling trails and even themed gardens.
During my first visit, I rented a bicycle and spent hours riding through bamboo trails and lakeside paths. It’s a bit of a workout to explore, but trust me, it’s worth it. Bring your friends or family, pack some snacks, and make a full day out of it.

4. Taman Tasik Alam Impian
If you’re from Shah Alam, you’d know Alam Impian has that laid-back neighbourhood charm. Taman Tasik Alam Impian is one of those community parks that come alive on weekends.
It’s known for its lakeside walking track, perfect for joggers who want a breezy evening run by the water. What makes it stand out is how family-friendly it is. There’s a skatepark and a dedicated cycling track. I’ve seen kids zooming around on rollerblades while parents stroll by the lake, which is such a wholesome family time.
Personally, I like to come here for evening walks to catch the sunset. It’s not too crowded, and the lake reflections are stunning.

5. Taman Rekreasi Alam Megah
Taman Rekreasi Alam Megah is more low-key compared to the big names, but that’s its charm. It’s a neighbourhood favourite with a lake and jogging paths.
What makes this park famous among Shah Alam locals is the morning crowd. You’ll see aunties and uncles doing aerobics, while food stalls pop up outside the entrance. For me, it’s the convenience factor. If you live nearby, it’s the kind of place where you can squeeze in a quick jog before work or unwind after a long day.
📍 Taman Alam Megah, 40400 Shah Alam
🕒 Mon-Sun (8am-7pm)
Shah Alam might be known for its malls and café scene, but its parks and recreational spots are what give the city its soul. So the next time you’re planning a day out, skip the indoor plans and check out one of these parks. Who knows, you might just catch me brisk walking by the lake, iced coffee in hand.
