Bake By MEL has become a rather popular name within the bakery scene. It has been a year since this sophisticated bakery made its debut in Kuala Lumpur, and it has certainly made a name for itself since.
Inspired by the internet’s latest obsession, the viral Dubai chocolate sensation from FIX Dessert Chocolatier, Bake By MEL has their own exciting pistachio kunafa series.
Founded by the dynamic duo Melanie Pong and Damien Lee, who are the people behind CC by Mel and Buns by MEL, Bake By MEL is tapping into a viral niche and filling a gap in the foodie market—so, let’s talk deets.
‘Can’t Get Knafeh of It‘

First, a bit of context (Though honestly, if you need it, do you even exist on social media?).
FIX Dessert Chocolatier is the Dubai-based chocolate that took TikTok by storm, especially with its viral flavour, aptly named, ‘Can’t Get Knafeh of It.’ The hype is simply not dying down, people. Seriously, this treat is so bewitching on screen, it’s practically a verified social media superstar at this point.
Not that I’ve had the pleasure of trying it myself, but that’s where Bake By MEL comes in, right?
Watching those videos of people sinking their teeth into that chocolate is enough to make anyone green with envy. You can hear every crunch as the creamy pistachio kunafa filling oozes out—cue the crying emoji.
With Bake by MEL’s new series, we can finally create our own mouthwatering videos. (HAH! Take that, TikTok For You Page!) It might not be the real deal, but it’s definitely accessible and honestly? Just as deliciously tempting.
Bake by MEL

With Bake By MEL, Melanie and Damien knew they wanted to take their passion for baked goods to a whole new level. In a sea of bakeries, they aimed to stand out with creative offerings, even if they were a bit nervous about how patrons would react. Thus, you’ll find that this bakery does not offer your typical fare.
Committed to reducing food waste, they donate unsold items to orphanages, which adds a heartwarming touch to their endeavour.
Note that prices lean towards the higher side here—a point frequently mentioned in Google reviews. Yet, you can expect to be wowed at Bake by MEL with unique creations like ‘tacros’, a flaky taco-croissant hybrid; and ‘cromboloni’ sandwiches.
They offer a small selection of hot dishes too, including the classic Big Breakfast, Smoked Duck Aglio Olio, and more.
With their latest creations, it’s clear they’re kicking creativity up a notch.
Pistachio kunafa reimagined in KL

Their new series features the viral Dubai chocolate dupe, available in two tempting flavours: Pistachio Dubai Kunafa Chocolate (RM39) and Bueno Dubai Kunafa Chocolate (RM37).
Compared to FIX Dessert Chocolatier’s prices, these chocolate bars are quite affordable and even have the eye-catching paint splatter design on the front. While they might not have the same creamy smoothness as the original, they’re definitely worth a try if you’re looking to sink your teeth into something crunchy and pistachio-y or hazelnutty.
The pistachio kunafa madness does not stop there. Bake By MEL has taken things up a notch with a range of kunafa-inspired pastries, including Kunafa croissants, Kunafa crombolonis, Kunafa brownies, and Kunafa cookies.
Those who have tried these kunafa treats have given them five stars, complementing the strong pistachio flavour that’s rich without being overly sweet.
If you’ve been craving anything pistachio kunafa simply for a taste of what the viral Dubai chocolate has to offer, this is definitely the place to indulge.
Not your average scones or egg tarts

Alongside their new pistachio kunafa series, Bake by MEL has also launched a delightful line of creative scones and tarts.
Scones (RM8) flavours include Triple Chocolate, Lotus Biscoff Cheese, Longjing Jasmine Mochi, and Black Sesame Peanut. The Lotus Biscoff Cheese scone offers a good blend of sweet and savoury, while the Longjing Jasmine Mochi is a must-try for matcha enthusiasts.
Egg tarts here are priced at RM12+ and available in a range of flavours including original, chocolate, pistachio, matcha, and more.
Featuring a pitch-black colour, the tarts have been crafted to achieve a soft and flaky texture. When you slice into the Pistachio Tart, the filling oozes out like a creamy pool of pistachio lava—yum! A rare combination, the Salted Egg Floss Mochi Tart offers a unique, chewy, and savoury filling.
All in all, Bake By MEL delivers a bakery experience that’s truly one of a kind, thanks to their innovative baked goods that you won’t typically find anywhere else.
If you’re ever in the mood for some unique baked goods or violently craving pistachio kunafa, you know where to go.
