While it may have once been inaccessible to most ordinary citizens, flying has become accessible to almost everyone in recent years. Malaysia already has its fair share of airlines operating within its skies and one more is likely to take flight by the end of this year, namely Ascend Airways.
Not competing with major airlines
Ascend Airways Malaysia is scheduled to launch in late 2025. Interestingly, instead of competing with established names like Malaysia Airlines or AirAsia, the new company is planning to serve the public in a different capacity. This will probably be helpful in ensuring its success and survival in the long run.
Own focus
The new airline will be putting its focus on renting out its fleet of aeroplanes, complete with crew, maintenance and insurance services. Their aeroplanes will be used to transport both cargo and passengers. Anyone who needs these aeroplanes, such as other airlines, businesses or even the Malaysian government, will be free to rent these ready-to-go planes.
Foreign expertise

A UK company called Ascend Airways is backing this venture. The company itself is part of Avia Solutions Group, a major aviation business based in Lithuania. Avia Solutions has 200 aeroplanes in its fleet and will be bringing its expertise to Malaysia through the launch of the new airline. Its Malaysian project is part of its global expansion plan. Similar projects are currently progressing in Brazil, the Philippines, and Thailand.
Led by an expert

As of now, Ascend Airways has been conditionally approved for an Air Service Permit from the Malaysian Aviation Commission. It is currently waiting for the important and necessary Air Operator Certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia. The airline is being led by Germal Singh Khera, a local aviation expert with over 30 years of experience. He will be assisted by a team of experienced professionals to ensure the airline launches without a hitch.
What do we think?
Having another airline to serve Malaysians is never a bad thing. Hopefully, Ascend Airways has an uneventful but successful launch and will be able to grow in the next few years.
