ANIMANGAKI, Malaysia’s biggest celebration of anime, comics and gaming (ACG), is back for another spectacular year. Since its humble beginnings in 2009, the event has blossomed into one of Southeast Asia’s most beloved fan gatherings, attracting tens of thousands of visitors annually. For 2025, AniManGaki will once again take over the Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC) in Selangor from 22 to 24 August 2025, with three jam-packed days of cosplay, concerts and competitions.
What makes AniManGaki special is the community spirit. Fans affectionately call themselves “gakis,” and every August, they come together not only to celebrate their passions but to make new memories. This year, the organisers have teased a line-up of events that make AniManGaki 2025 a can’t-miss event.
The first pet cosplay competition
AniManGaki has always been known for its creative competitions, but 2025 introduces something completely new and delightfully chaotic, the Pet Cosplay Competition. For the very first time, pets will take the stage dressed in costumes that match their owners or capture the spirit of iconic characters. Expect wagging tails, flapping wings, and plenty of laughter as judges score entries based on creativity and sheer cuteness.
Spotlight on the judges

One of the biggest draws for attendees each year is the cosplay competition, and in 2025 the stakes are higher than ever. Fans were thrilled when it was revealed that world-renowned cosplayer Hakken would once again be involved as a guest and judge. Known for their striking portrayals, attention to detail, and commanding stage presence, Hakken has become a global cosplay icon with millions of followers. Their involvement brings both prestige and excitement, as competitors know they’ll be evaluated by one of the very best.
Alongside Hakken, AniManGaki’s quirky Pet Cosplay Competition will also feature a lively panel of judges. The category has become one of the event’s most beloved highlights, combining the chaos of pets with the artistry of costume design. With experienced judges from the cosplay community joining in, this competition ensures a line of expert critique and light-hearted fun.
International guests
Aya Hirano
A major highlight of this year’s line-up is the legendary Aya Hirano, one of Japan’s most celebrated voice actresses. Known worldwide as the voice of Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), Lucy Heartfilia (Fairy Tail) and Konata Izumi (Lucky Star), Aya has shaped the soundscape of modern anime. Her rare appearance in Malaysia is a dream come true for fans who grew up with her iconic roles. Panels, meet-and-greets and autograph sessions will give attendees a chance to connect with the superstar whose voice has defined a generation of anime.
Studio Orange Producer (BEASTARS)
AniManGaki 2025 also offers fans a look behind the scenes of anime production with the appearance of Yoshihiro Watanabe, Producer at Studio Orange. Known for its work on Beastars and Trigun Stampede, Studio Orange has become a powerhouse of cutting-edge CGI animation. Watanabe’s sessions will provide rare insight into the creativity that drive modern anime production, giving fans and aspiring creators alike a valuable peek into the industry’s inner workings.
Featured cosplay guests

This year’s featured cosplay line-up, in collaboration with K Talent Entertainment, is nothing short of spectacular. Making her Malaysian debut is Ariderion, a Serbian model and cosplayer admired for her stunning visuals and stage presence, who will also be unveiling exclusive merchandise for the first time in Asia. Returning favourite Knite, a Greek cosplayer and founder of KT Entertainment, brings over 15 years of craftsmanship and mentorship experience back to AniManGaki. Fans will also get to reunite with Shookoboo, the charismatic Chinese cosplayer based in Singapore whose playful energy has won hearts worldwide. Rounding out the list is Shunsuke, a Swiss cosplayer, model, and photographer appearing in Malaysia for the very first time, celebrated for his craftsmanship and international accolades. And that’s not all, AniManGaki has hinted at even more exciting guest announcements, ensuring the 2025 edition will be its most star-studded yet.
Concert nights
Concert nights are always a huge highlight, with the convention extending its hours to let music take centre stage. Past years have seen everything from J-rock to idol groups, and 2025 is keeping that tradition alive. You will get to see groups like KLP48 at the event and more. The thrill of singing along to anime soundtracks, glow sticks waving in unison and fans dancing shoulder to shoulder creates a unique atmosphere that no streaming platform could replicate.
Cosplay competitions
The annual competition is a showcase of talent where contestants craft intricate costumes by embodying beloved characters and deliver theatrical performances on stage. The scale of the event means competitors bring their very best. For newcomers, it’s awe-inspiring but for veterans, it’s the Super Bowl of Malaysian cosplay. The Pet Cosplay Contest, on the other hand, adds a dose of humour and cuteness, reminding everyone that AniManGaki is also about joy and community spirit.
AniManGaki Idol and dance competitions

If cosplay isn’t your forte, perhaps singing or dancing is. AniManGaki Idol has become a platform for aspiring vocalists to shine, often performing anime theme songs or J-pop classics that get the crowd singing along. Meanwhile, the dance competitions showcase high-energy routines, from K-pop covers to original choreography inspired by gaming and anime culture. Both competitions embody the festival’s mission which is by giving fans the stage, literally, to celebrate what they love.
Artist Alley

No trip to AniManGaki is complete without exploring the Artist Alley. This sprawling marketplace is where independent creators, illustrators and doujinshi artists set up shop. You can buy prints, commissions, stickers and handcrafted merchandise here. Every year, the alley feels like a treasure hunt, with fans discovering new favourites while supporting local talent. It’s also a hub for personal connections where fans while be able to meet their favourite artists.
Photography and portraits
Cosplay photography is an art in itself, and AniManGaki celebrates it with dedicated competitions. Photographers are challenged to capture the essence of characters and the emotion of performances. For visitors, this means plenty of opportunities for striking photo ops across the convention floor.
Gaming tournaments
Gamers aren’t left out at AniManGaki. The convention has long been a space for fighting game tournaments and esports showdowns, drawing participants from across the region. The competitive energy is palpable, with fans gathering around screens to cheer on their favourites. The tournaments inject adrenaline into the event, proving that AniManGaki is as much about gaming as it is about cosplay.
