Imagine stepping into a kopitiam that looks like your old office complete with fluorescent lights, swivel chairs, and desks that double as dining spots. It’s giving “I need to stay late and finish this ‘urgent’ work that somehow always can’t wait until tomorrow.” This new office kopitiam has Malaysians buzzing. Some can’t get enough, while others are just plain confused!

Welcome to your new “work” spot

Step inside Ah Wong Office, and you might feel like you’ve been transported straight back to your 9-to-5 grind. The Kopitiam’s interior is a playful homage to office life: office tables with swivelling chairs, faux water coolers in the corners and walls plastered with “Employee of the Month” photos.

P.S.: These champions are usually the ones who are most likely to win a gold medal in office politics.

It’s as if someone took all your least favourite office moments and decided to serve them up with a side of coffee.

Are the food and drinks as iconic as its decor?

The “confidential documents” (aka the menu) are neatly filed on a rack. Flip through, you’ll find they’re printed on plain A4 paper in classic black and white, straight out of the office photocopier.

Their best-seller? The Asam Laksa Kembung Fish With Noodles (RM15). The secret to their laksa is the ikan kembung used in the gravy—thick, flavourful, and oh-so-satisfying. It’s got a bit of a spicy kick for that extra ‘oomph.’

Next up, the Mothership Bread (RM11) is a must-try. It’s packed with creamy scrambled eggs and chicken ham, all stuffed into a light, fluffy bread that practically melts in your mouth. The combination of rich eggs and tender ham makes it super comforting and indulgent.

And don’t skip the 1957 French Fries (RM15). These thick-cut fries are seasoned with curry leaf flakes, making them crispy, extra savory, and a perfect upgrade from your standard fries.

But the real star of the show? Kopi Holiao (RM8). This isn’t your average caffeine fix. With its rich and intense taste, it’s perfect for those days when you need an extra jolt to tackle your never-ending to-do list.

Wong’s family has been perfecting this drink for five decades, and it’s truly one-of-a-kind. It blends earthy barley with refreshing pandan water and coffee, creating a combo you won’t find anywhere else.

Hot Takes and Cold Brews

Ah Wong Office is causing quite a stir, and the reactions are all over the place. Some folks are living for the quirky setup, feeling that the decor perfectly captures the stress of office life—minus the actual work. They love how this place has taken the no work-life balance, endless deadlines, and overtime work vibes and flipped them into something chill and relaxed.

But of course, not everyone is on board. Some find the theme a bit too on-the-nose and would rather sip their coffee without being reminded of the daily grind.

MFT Verdict

Ah Wong Office is serving up more than just coffee—it’s serving up a whole mood! If you’re up for a kopitiam that doubles as a nostalgic trip to your office days (but with way more flair), it’s definitely worth a visit.

Not gonna lie, the theme is so on-point that I almost felt like I was working on a weekend. Thank goodness they didn’t use that work group chat ping for orders. Might need to chill outside next time to keep my mental health in check. Phew!
