This shipping container in Old Klang Road is hiding a secret—a demure cafe with a florist corner

Looking to escape the everyday grind? Just last month, Above The Clouds made its debut in Old Klang Road, offering a whimsical escape within the walls of its new blue space.

This vibrant cafe may resemble a shipping crate from the outside, but inside, it invites patrons to delve into a world of delightful desserts and playful drinks. Its dreamy aesthetics will actually make you gasp in delight.

Get ready to chase your worries away, just like the wind scatters the clouds above.

Above The Clouds

Tucked away behind an auto dealer lot, Above The Clouds is more than just a cafe. It features a quaint little florist corner that adds a special touch to the overall experience. The cute logo—a fluffy walking cloud with eyes made of coffee beans peeking out—perfectly captures the cafe’s whimsical spirit.

The inspiration for this charming spot bloomed from the owner’s online florist business. After realising she craved a deeper connection with her customers, she decided to expand her endeavours by opening a physical store complete with a beautifully designed cafe space where visitors can unwind for a bit after picking up their bouquets.

This unique setting not only allows her to engage more personally with those who appreciate her floral arrangements, but also provides a venue for flower arrangement workshops. Here, you can learn to create stunning bouquets and master the art of wrapping flowers.

While you can still place orders for floral arrangements via WhatsApp, with the cafe space now available, you are invited to walk in and choose your blooms in person. There’s nothing quite like the joy of picking fresh, beautiful flowers.

An interior for dreamers

The interior of Above The Clouds is undoubtedly the highlight of this new cafe.

Painted in a stunning cornflower blue and cream, these colours create a calming and inviting atmosphere, and run as a theme throughout the space.

Spanning two stories, the cafe features a spacious outdoor rooftop area where you might be lucky enough to catch a breathtaking sunset while sipping your coffee. Just along the rooftop, the upstairs section offers additional seating, perfect for those who prefer a quieter, more intimate space.

On the first floor, a three-tier white water fountain, reminiscent of a fairy tale, features fresh flowers gently floating inside, adding a tranquil and floral touch. The large windows scattered throughout the shipping containers allow an abundance of natural light to filter in. The entire space feels warm, aesthetic, and impeccably clean.

P.S. For some reason, the aesthetics sort of remind me of that scene in Madagascar where they get shipped off to Africa. Anyone else with me on this?

MFT’s Review

Above The Clouds offers an inviting selection of food and drinks, including their Blueberry Cream Cheese Bagel and whimsical creations like the Blue Sky Cloud Latte, which comes topped with a fluffy cloud of cotton candy.

Naturally, we couldn’t resist indulging in their treats.

We opted to start off with a savoury delight and got their Mentai Melt Ham Bagel (RM15). Unfortunately, this was rather average and didn’t stand out. The Grape & Chrysanthemum Cream Cheese Bagel (RM15) was slightly better, but the grapes had an unnatural sweetness to them, tasting like they had been soaked in syrup.

Bagels are intended to be pleasantly chewy, but we found the ones here to be a bit dense and tough, which was a bit of a let down.

Our favourite of the day was the Pan Suisse Pistachio (RM13), which had a creamy pistachio filling that some might find a touch too sweet. The pastry itself was charcoal black, each bite was buttery and flaky.

As for drinks, we found the coffee options quite enjoyable. Our recommendation, Blue Sky Cloud Latte (RM16) offers a tasty and fun experience. Note that the cotton candy melts quickly, blending into the drink.

The Rose Blossom Latte (RM13) stands out for its use of real rose petals instead of syrup, adding a delicate floral touch and flavour that we liked. The Pineapple Americano (RM13), while refreshing, felt a bit basic, reminiscent of a vitamin C drink.

Worth a trip to the clouds?

While there were some hits and misses at Above The Clouds, it’s important to remember that the cafe has only been open for a few weeks now. We simply can’t overlook the stunning presentation and aesthetic appeal of the space, which has completely won us over.

Although we weren’t completely vibing with the food, as of this writing, the cafe boasts an impressive 4.8 rating on Google with nearly 50 reviews. This suggests that while our experience may not have hit the mark, others have enjoyed their visit. Reviews indicate a mix regarding the bagels, but many patrons highlight the croissants, waffles, and drinks.

This blue cafe shines more as an Instagrammable spot rather than an experienced cafe—at least for now. As they gather feedback and refine their menu, it may grow to offer a more well-rounded dining experience.

If you’re in the mood for a cool blue photoshoot or if you’d like to pick up a bouquet, go right ahead and get your heads above the clouds at this cafe.
