Self-proclaimed as having the ‘best biryani in town’, we’re almost inclined to believe them! Customers of Buharry Biryani Bistro swear by it, especially paired with the Ayam Bawang! The aroma of fried onions, tender fried chicken, and savoury rice all pair together to create a seriously insane flavour bomb that kicks you in the taste buds! Buharry Biryani Bistro also serves up quite a number of lauk that you can pick out yourself like masala dishes. As a bonus, there’s plenty of parking at this locale!

Famous for their banana leaf and multicoloured thosai, the biryani here is surprisingly up to par! This Bangsar restaurant serves up a biryani with a seriously savoury oomph. Paired with classic items like Chicken 65 that are constantly being freshly cooked, you surely won’t be disappointed! Our recommendation is to get the biryani for seconds, a good completion to your banana leaf rice meal! Also, the exterior of the restaurant is surrounded by lush bushes, keeping the interior cool and aesthetic!

4. Biryani Station

8 Local Favourite Biryani

Blazing high heat and clay pots, doesn’t that sound familiar? Claypot biryani has been a staple for many a year, and Biryani Station is a strong contender for one of the best! Their mutton biryani is completely bone-shard free (rare compared to many KL biryani s) and extremely tender, to the point of falling off the bone! Also be sure to give their tandoori items a try, like the tandoori chicken, surprisingly juicy! And unsurprisingly, super-duper flavourful! The shop is a little hidden, as it’s located at the furthest corner of Secret Garden, however, look out for the jolly man holding up a claypot, and you’re set!

5. Mallar Bistro

8 Local Favourite Biryani

If unique yet traditional cooking methods are what gets you going, definitely start planning your next trip to Mallar Bistro. biryani here is famously steamed in bamboo before they ceremoniously dump it all out on a splayed-out banana leaf. The bamboo steaming process lends a much fluffier texture to the rice, and flavours that are more intense as compared to your typical biryani cooking process! Our recommendation? Surprisingly enough, the vegetarian biryani! Super flavourful and fragrant, especially with the bamboo steaming process! The crab luak here is also really good, slathered in their signature in-house sauce.

6. Restaurant Appu

Plenty of diners who ordered from this locale off of GrabFood delivery were pleasantly surprised, but a quick peruse through the ratings on the Grab app also tells us that this spot is great for dining in too! Though they change up their menu daily, some classics still remain, like the biryani! We love the chicken biryani, the spices they use to marinate and cook the chicken blend so harmoniously with the flavours of the spiced rice. Salty, savoury, unctuous! Service here is also known to be top-notch, where you’ll be treated like family upon stepping through the doors of Restaurant Appu.

Address: 551, Jalan Bukit Petaling, Bukit Petaling, 50460 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur

7. Nasi Briyani Kukus Padu HQ

We all know how frickin good roadside stall food can be, and Nasi Biryani Kukus Padu HQ is certainly no exception! With lines stretching around the block, you can clearly see how popular they are, and for good reason! With aromatic, brightly coloured biryani that’s a step above the rest, you can be sure to enjoy every bite while at this locale! They offer 4 types of protein with your biryani, but we think you should opt for the daging hitam! Tender, beefy, and sooo unctuous! Be wary though, this spot has limited spaces for dine-in customers, so be sure to arrive early to snag a spot!

8. Nasi Briyani Batu Pahat

A humble roadside stall tucked away in Persiaran Hamzah Alang, serving up biryani that’s got a seriously homemade touch to every grain of rice. Multi-coloured and flavourful, every bite transports you to simpler times. But enough about the rice, what about the sides? Well, the kambing masak rempah is one of their signatures, causing for great queues around their little stall during busy hours. While you’re here, also give the daging gulai kari a shot. Super savoury and spice-forward, it’s the perfect pairing for a plate of biryani rice!
